I used to know how to do this but I haven't used it in so long I have forgotten. Can anyone tell me how to crop a specific size out of an original? ei A 12x 12in original, how do I crop out an exact 8x10 chunk?

No problem. Use the crop tool or the rectangle selection tool but at the top of the screen select from the options drop down "style" and then Fixed Ratio. Change the width and height to 10 and 8!!

easy as 1-2-3

Well, I tried it that way and the crop size kept ending up being a square about the size of 5 pixels! I will try it again. Don't know what I did wrong. Thanks much, guys!

click the clear button to remove any previous values entered...

make srue you indicate you want the values to be INCHES  (in) not PIXELS (px)
*(though i think it's inches by default...)

*outside of that, if it's still "wonkey",  toss your PREF file and let PS rebuild a fresh one @ the next launch.

Okay. That worked. Seems I am having some mouse problems as well. Didn't know the buttons wear out, but my son says yes. Now I know what to do. Very helpful, you are!

in Photoshop Preferences, you may have Units/Rulers set to pixels which will cause the cropping to use pixels instead of inches unless u manually enter "in"
