I'm sick of having to download all the models I want to use, I want my own.
How can I make my own models that I can use in bryce? what program must I use?
plz help.
Rayraz posted Tue, 09 October 2007 at 3:07 PM
you mean making models with polygons instead of booleans?
thers many programs that do that. but a nice free one to do so would be "wings". it quite popular amongst the brycers on this forum.

***Bryce!
**Look, Bryce is not just a landscaper. With a bit of imagination you can make anything in Bryce. I've been making models in Bryce for years. Just checkout the top sticky thread in the forum, the one marked 'Get ready for another duel of the apps.' and you'll see what I mean.
Many of the guys and gals on this create models with Bryce and most are very well done. It just takes abit of practise and patience.

@ Rayraz: thx, I will certainly try it
@TheBryster: Bryce is nice, but you can't make everything without models or having thousands of bolean object.

Im guessing that you haven't really given Bryce a fair try, you can model alot more than many of people think!
Floriaan posted Wed, 10 October 2007 at 1:37 AM
Not I fair try? I gave it a lot more than that, more than enough for sure.

Hangon! What have you done so far? Maybe we can help.
You haven't posted anything in your gallery to date and with respect you haven't been a member here for very long so it's hard for us to tell where you're at.
Drop some pics of your stuff on this thread and let's see what we can do.

* having thousands of bolean objects*. - obviously he's never seen Bambam131's work..;)Here; rank heresy, of course, but a couple of Hail Materials and our Focii, and you'll be right as rain. Easy, free, and we have a forum explaining how to use 'em. You can create files (.obj format is recommended), texture them, and not only use them in Bryce, but in Poser as well as other programs.
I put a Wings model in almost everything I post...

Cool castle anim. Most of us don't do anims............I think.
If you made the castle in Bryce you're on the right track.
The one thing about Bryce is that you need patience...lots and lots of it. I'd say keep at it. Booleans are fun once you get the hang of them, although it's fair to say that not everyone like them.

Bryce can do some serious models.
If you want to use other software to make your models, then you just need to make sure that the model you want to put into Bryce is in some format Bryce likes. There are standard formats out there nearly any good model making software can export to: obj, 3ds, dxf, lwo.
This forum has many threads concerning free software to do models. For example, there's at least two good threads for the Ivy Generator, which exports obj models. There is also the free CB Modeler Pro which does well for organic models.
But Bryce can do quite a bit.

If you want to do models with bryce then my advice is look for tutorials(google works) for bryce modelling. If you want to use some other program then look at something like wing3d or a top end program. But please don't come here after only being a member on Rendo since Agust and tell us you are sick of downloading models and you want to make your own..
Gee man we all had to download models so we could use them in bryce at sometime...i still do...like i said before search for tutorials on google or look at using another program. My bet is you'll use another program and then expect the model to appear in it when you open it up......goodluck

A good portion of patience will be required for any program. I´ld say that with some practice, you´re capable to model just about anything in Bryce, except for realistic human characters.
I use C4D these days, but still use techniques i´ve learned and used with Bryce.
And for massive scenes, Bryce is still unbeatable.
While all high end programs will start to crack at around 4-5 million polys, Bryce can handle a few hundred millions, and still render without issues. And that on an average system.

You could try http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html
I have used this quite extensivley and have an object in the free section (stairs) made with it. It's very easy to use if you take your time. If you can't get on with it, then you should give up because it's the easiest 3d app around.... and there is a free version too. Check out the website anyway.

I'd be another to say Wings3D for starters. (It's the easiest one to pick up without other polygon modeling experience. If you understand the principles there, you should be good with stuff like Hexagon or Silo, or less similar programs even. Only thing is, Wings will probably spoil you from the modeling process perspective and make it hard to try stuff like Blender.)
As for Bryce, it can handle polygons really good as attested to by Rochr. But on some computers, it seems to choke a little on processing stuff on import. But this is because it's converting to tris, and that uses RAM. (Seems this step isn't too efficient in Bryce.) So I'd suggest to model and work with and keep things quads for the most part. But as that final step for any model going into Bryce (if it isn't something going to be rigged for DazStudio or Poser) would be to convert to tris. Importing tri based models is pretty near instanteous in Bryce.
Your friendly neighborhood Wings3D nut.

There might be something worth downloading.

Wings 3d is popular here, but I can also recommend Blender, got some nice features, especially now that sculpt tools have been added.

or any combination of the above. I'm interested in the picture, not so much how it got there (rank Heresy!..;) Metasequoia's not bad, I've played with it some, but it's an older version for English; they 'went Japanese' on it for more recent versions (as I remember...rightly or wrongly..;)
Blender will do many things; animate, bone and rig (but not for Poser), discombobulate (greebles), sculpt, UVMap, convert file formats, make Julian fries, slice, dice....;) It's free, which is good, but dang, knowing where to find things can take getting used to..dozens of menus and submenus. Don't let me scare you off; it does some things fairly well.
Don't feel bad, I went through a Boolean phase, but I wanted more control over the primitives (spheres, cubes, etc). It's only another path; you can stay with Bryce if you want for that, or not.
Drop by the Blender or Wings forums if you have further questions, we're mostly harmless..;)

I tend to build basics in Truespace then move them to Bryce for detailing and texture work.
As someone else said, how you get there isn't the big issue, it's the end result that matters.
I only use Bryce for my finished pieces, unless I think DAZ Studio can handle what I want.
