... now don't shout at me.... .VOB files that are used in Vue. There are a number of excellent freebies in that foramt and it would be a shame if I couldn't use any of them.

So anyone know how.... or indeed if I can convert them to say .OBJ etc?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that some of the Vue items, such as Rodluc's, also have an obj. and/or 3ds. version along with the vob. file in the download.

You may be able to export the object from Vue.
Just choose 'Export Object" from the 'File' menu.  I haven't done this very much, but i think there may be some objects taht can't export.

Export in .obj or whatever you want, then import them into Bryce.

But that would mean me having to buy Vue first surely LOL..... I have Bryce because it was in my price range.

actually, try getting Blender. Among the other 300 things it tries to do, it does a lot of file imports and exports. I know I've seen .cob, not sure about .vob (I'm at work and can't check now),  but if it's there, you import it as one format, then export as the other.

If you don't have VUE you can download the VUE 6 PLE for free to play with.  After 30 days you will get a watermark on your renders, but you can still export from it.  I use the PLE to make some models, because I can see 4 views at once.

Download it from e-on and give it a try.  Some .vob files have been locked so they cannot be exported.

Let us know if it works for you.

.cob is a truespace file, haven't come across a .vob importer for blender, I wonder if it's a closed format

.vob is a Vue object. It is just like an .obp is for Bryce.
Only Vue can open them, AFAIK, and .vob is not backward compatible (an older version of Vue can't open a .vob made with a newer version of Vue).

I did download it when it first appeared, even posted a link at the Renderosity forums about it, but the only thing is, didn't matter how many times I downloaded it the file was corrupt.

Bryster, it's only heresy if you love it more than Bryce... and since I love Bryce more, theres no worries. :tt2:

I looked real quick at  Blender, Wings, MeshLab, even Google Sketchup. None of them import VOB.

Thanks for taking the trouble to look on my behalf.
I kindly asked a vue user to export a tree I wanted and he sent it to me, but the resulting tree was just a very simple Y shaped object, no leaves...
But thanks for your replies anyway.
