This is the second incarnation as I flubbed the first one badly. It wouldn't work at all in the cloth room, and I've no idea why. Ennyhoo....I persevered and this is the result. The chest has to be constrained as it will slide down during draping. I've grouped it in the preset. I plan to release this as a freebie, but wanted some feedback first. It's better than the first one though I still haven't gotten the hang of getting it to fit closer to her skin. All in time, I suppose. Also need to get outta the cloth room and learn more about the Material room as I'd love to be able to make textures for my creations for Poser. I can do it for Studio, but no clue how it's done for Poser.
My attempts to put her in a sitting pose weren't successful though. For some reason, my P5 seems to ignore when I select ground or bench prop as collision objects. The cloth still hangs thru both. Perhaps those who are more experienced with cloth sims will be able to get it right.
I put this on a nice background to try to alleviate the poor quality of the renders. My elderly pc just doesn't seem to want to do a better quality render. The only postwork was to take out some lighting (yeah...tried a bit of that too....lol) on her arms on one pose and fix where I had to hide her toes in the shoes. Yep....need to get outta that cloth room and learn some more about Poser!

It looks great! I'd love to try it. Is there a link for it?

Actually, I've not packaged it up yet. Just got thru with the image a bit ago, and had some chores to take care of. You know how it is....work on the puter a bit.....do a bit of housework.....more puter stuff....get summin to eat.....back to the puter......and so on....LOL!
I'll get it fixed up for you here in a bit and send you a link via site mail. I'd love to know how it does on others' pc's. Is that ok?

Sure, sounds good. I love dynamic clothing :)

So do I! I've hardly played with Studio since I discovered the cloth room...LOL! And I love Studio! I can make much better renders with it, which is why I want to do so in Poser. I like the way dynamic cloth looks and wish I could get my pc to make better renders when I use P5.
Oh....and you have mail!

Thank you, SSAfam1! I appreciate the good words!

As a fellow cloth room "attempter" I applaud your concept and construction. I can hardly wait to try out the new dress.
Thank you for your generosity.

the sim calculates pretty fast and it does drape well once you do the mods I mailed you about.

That's a beautiful dress - looks great!

Falls very nicely.
Have you created material zones for texturing ?

I'd be interested in knowing what modifications FrankT discovered that helps it drape.

Have you set collision for the dress as well as the ground and bench?

@Acadia - The modification I made was to delete most of the chest area from the constrained group apart from the two pointy bits at the top. I was having problems getting it to drape properly on "larger chested" ladies but that sorted it out
Acadia posted Mon, 15 October 2007 at 2:56 AM
Thanks, I will give that a try.

Just a quick check-in before work.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
And many thanks to FrankT, MatrixWorkz and Acadia for trying it out for me. :)
I'll be back later this evening and will update on progress on getting it ready to submit to Free Stuff.
MatrixWorkz posted Mon, 15 October 2007 at 10:24 AM
I made the entire chest except for the top rim dynamic. Keeping the top constrained helped keep it from loosing the shape of the neckline.
Darboshanski posted Mon, 15 October 2007 at 3:12 PM
Very nice indeed!! It's great to see some this it's a fresh change from the "ho-ing" clothes and strips of cloth other deem as clothing.

Ok, I didn't try that. I edited in, not out, so I'll try that too. I haven't had a chance to give this dress another spin, but I am going to right now :)

@infinity10: No, I've not created any material zones. I'm not exactly sure how to go about it, really. Can that be done in Hex?
@Touchwood: Didn't think about setting the dress to collide against. I'll have to try that.
I'll be doing a bit more work on this before I submit it to Free Stuff. I'll be redoing the constrained group and make a new preset using the suggestions from Frank and MatrixWorkz.
And thanks for the renders, Acadia and MatrixWorkz! Both of you and Frank have been a tremendous help!
Acadia posted Mon, 15 October 2007 at 6:28 PM
I even changed the material in the Material Room.
Hair is "Lady Jane" by Mylochka, earrings a gift from Neomea, shoes from Daz. Material Texture by 4blueyes. I think the character texture and morph came from "Poser Corner", but they don't seem to be around anymore.

I Love dynamic clothes even more now that I have VF and can make them for many of the figures I use. I wish I was better at modeling though so I could make some for other figures like the Poser kids. I've done one set for Ben but it wasn't really very satisfactory.

@Acadia: That is a gorgeous render! Thank you for posting it!
As usual, RL got in the way of getting this ready for submission sigh I did work on it some last night, but I was dog-tired, so put it off til today. Then, today, I had to go to the nursing home to help my sister with my mom. I'm afraid tomorrow isn't looking very promising either. groan
But if I can't get to it before this weekend, I'm sure I'll get it all done then.
And many, many thanks for all the wonderful comments and help! I deeply appreciate it!

By the way, how does one go about creating material zones for texturing?
I think I should know this, but for some reason I'm drawing a blank.
@MatrixWorkz: What is VF? Is it easy to use?
MatrixWorkz posted Tue, 16 October 2007 at 11:52 PM
VF is Virtual Fashion. I was one of the few people who fell for the hype when it came out. It doesn't produce the best of meshes for Poser and I only have the Virtual Fashion 1.0 Basic for Poser. There was an upgrade that supposedly made better meshes but I don't know of anyone who bought it after the makers of the software tried to Strong Arm PhilC into dropping his own clothing making products.
In answer to your question, no, it's not the easiest thing to use and everything I've made in it has had to be touched up in other applications to work smoothly in Poser. Keep doing what you're doing though. You're producing some nice starters.
Doctor Geep surely has some good tutorials on creating Material zones. If not him, someone else maybe. Material Zones are made by grouping the area's you want for each material. I clean up all the material zones from VF using Poser's very own grouping tool. Look for some tutorials on UV mapping and it'll help you figure out material zones. A good place to start would probably be the UVMapper forum right here.

Just an update:
I've just submitted the dress to the Free Stuff. Hopefully, in a couple of days it will be available in my Free Stuff items area at my homepage.
