The Poser 7 bear with fur. Now he really looks like a bear don't you think? ![Smile](http://forum.daz3d.com/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) It is the bear that comes with Poser 7 (with my fur added) and it will only work with Poser 7.

I am pleased to say it will not be months or years before he is released only the testing on other machines is left.
Tell me what you think.

Fuzzy Wuzzieeee !!
:-)
Nice job !

But...  would it require a lot of computer power to use in animation, you think ?

We will soon be testing on other computers and one of them is a AMD with ~1.5 Ghz and 2 Mb ram. I will post the results as soon as it is done.

Meanwhile, here is a picture of the darker bear which will be in the same pack.

The lighter brown bear has been fixed, the face fur wasn't quite right (suggestions on DAZ forum), this is how he looks now.

He looks really nice - if I may ask how did you manage to achive this ?

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

It is mainly a couple of things:

  1. Many hours (up to several days) testing different settings for the fur, combinations between Poser hair nodes and texture. I thought I could find one "universal" combination which could be used for all furs but I'm beginning to think it is not possible. So I go through the process with every animal and sometimes even for every color of the animal. for example must light colors have different settings than dark colors.
  2. The lights in the scene are important. I always work with 6 infinite lights (top, bot, left, right, front, back) all white lights, 75 intensity, this give the best results when rendering.
  3. I optimize the fur (amount of verts, density, etc) to achive as "light load" as possible.
  4. I make scripts for every animal so if there are several colors they all use the same basic object. This is to reduce required computer space and file size. (Thanks goes to nruddock for teaching me this once upon a time)

On top of this it is the detailed styling which I do to avoid "exploding hair" and to make it follow the texture map (if I use a texture map on the object) and to simply style some areas for example a bit longer fur at places.

Well, I think that sums it up. 😄

The question is when will it be available in either bate or finished product???

mrsparky posted Tue, 23 October 2007 at 7:18 PM

WOW ! - all that work to create fur - thats an outstanding effort.
Thanks for sharing that info.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

The bear is done BUT (isn't there always) when saved to library and loaded again he "looses" information for one hair group (see image). The pz3 file is ok unless you save him to library first. Tech support at e-frontier is looking in to it

This does not happen to every object, for example the furred rat never had this that is why he could be released. But for some reason some objects behave very bad with fur.

No worries though I will go on with the other animals and in line is the bear from EF Wildlife series. There are freebies coming up too but this is a secret for now.  :sneaky:

Yes, over at CP. They are based on Noggin's rat (at DAZ).

Do you think you will ever do a pup?  Sharen

Absolutely Sharen!
And when e-frontier get the hair room issues fixed (probably in a patch according to tech) I hopefully will not have to spend so much time on ojects that turn out they don't work when done.
Maybe you remember the MilDog pup I made once upon a time? I still have it on my list but will probably have to redo it from scratch because of the Poser "issues".
We'll see what happens. 😄

I sure do remember that, it was adorable and I just loved it.  I will be patient, good work is worth the wait.  Sharen
