12 CREATURES CRAWLING Today’s entry honors the genre of “B” horror movies. Lots of 20th century stars played in them during the early stages of their careers. This image reminds us of a few: Steve McQueen in the original version of "The Blob," Jack Nicholson in the original version of "Little Shop of Horrors," and Forrest Tucker in "The Crawling Eye." Here are a few Halloween trivia facts for you: Lots of you may remember Tucker and his co-star Larry Storch from the 1960s television comedy F-Troop. But not many of you will recall that in 1975 Tucker and Storch reunited to star in a Saturday morning TV show about some parapsychologists who track and trap mischievous spirits. It was called "The Ghost Busters." The TV series ran almost a full decade before the release of the hit movie featuring an outstanding ensemble cast (including the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man). Columbia Pictures actually had to purchase the rights to the name "Ghostbusters" from CBS before it could be used as the title for the movie. Ray Parker Jr. wrote and performed the hit theme song from the movie songtrack, which became a #1 Billboard chart song and MTV video. It also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Song. Who you gonna call? Well, Huey Lewis called his lawyers, and successfully sued Parker for plagiarism. The plaintiffs claimed that Parker had stolen the melody from the 1983 hit song by Lewis and the News, “I Want a New Drug.” Ironically, Lewis had been the first choice to compose the "Ghostbusters" soundtrack, but he had to decline because he was working at the time on one for another movie-- "Back to the Future."
