Just wondering why there's zero support freebie wise for the G2 figures in the skin texture department.

Male or female? I'm in need of a project (signed off work at the moment due to back pain) and I was fancying doing a character texture set next. I was thinking about Miki but I could do someone else. Any specific requests?

I'd love to see skins for G2 Koji & Kelvin. I have a purchased skin for Simon called Nash that works for him and James but I have nothing but the defaults for G2 Koji & Kelvin. Right now buying isn't an option til I pay my credit card down from the new windows I put in my house this summer to save electricity and AC. (Believe me I am eyeballing some merchant skins but some free ones would really help me over this financial dry spell.)

Obviously for free I don't expect 4000x4000 high rez textures. Just some free new low rez ones would be nice. If you do high rez versions I can buy them later maybe.

Mike at least has some free skins to be found which is more than can be said for the Poser guys starting with Poser 6. At least the 5 man and woman could take V1 & 2 and M1 & 2 textures that were free and abundant.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 22 October 2007 at 3:33 AM

I cannot understand why the G2 males all have different head maps. It's incredibly annoying. Oh well, at least they can share body textures. And head maps can share for Simon and James G2.

OK, I'll get working. It'll probably be about the same res as my Riordan D/M3 freebie, okay?

well actually sydney G2 is so far a very good and complete model for realism.... her skin already nice but why not having some new skin set?
what i am very interested is the UV mesh map so people can do their own skin or tattoo!

there's a very big freebies gap for g2 models especially cloth, i was looking for some easy program like virtual fashion to create some clothes for sydney G2... unfortunely there s no support for this model.

Darboshanski ( ) posted Mon, 22 October 2007 at 9:35 AM

I have one for JessieG2 that was going to be a marketplace item but I have since decided to make it a freebie I've just been too busy to put it up. I'm too chicken to wade into the marketplace pool..LOL!

ShareCG.com is a good place to earn cash for your freebies if the market place scares you. All you need are freebies and a PayPal account. And thanks Karen Any additions to the standard skin fare the G2 figures have will be appreciated.

How about Jessie and Her Consort from the P6 line?  Something to make them, well, more human looking?

MatrixWorkz ( ) posted Mon, 22 October 2007 at 10:40 AM

If you want my opinion, I think a lot of the merchant texture makers would make more money if they'd make more freebie skins for the Poser figures and put them up on ShareCG. The kid's especially are lacking in any kind of skin support whatsoever.

Merchants can harp on no profit niche markets all they want but it's quite obvious to me from my download counts on the freebies I've made for the Poser figures that there is a great desire for these items! Even if you're not making $12+ per item, the money you'll make off the freebies side at ShareCG is more than worth the effort!

They could even make High 4000x4000 Rez versions to sell and release low rez versions on ShareCG to get folks interested in their work. I stopped buying High Rez skins because you can't really test them out without buying them and I ended up with a few duds. Doing Low rez teaser versions would boost sales on good textures and let people decide not to buy on crappy versions.

Yes, I've noticed there aren't any freebees for those characters in the Freestuff. I believe that in the store that Victorasstyle has some texture bases for G2 figures, at least I think she does. Others might too, I haven't done a search. But those are sale products. It would be great to see some in the freestuff.

Yeah, I'd say someone hasn't looked closely. I have a couple G2 clothing items in freebies here, but all in all, yeah, they are sadly negected in the freebies area. And thanks BlueEcho, I missed the announcement on your releases. I knew you had said you were working on one for JamesG2 many moons ago and I lost track of the release.

Hmm, that's odd.
I copied the link from my freestuff page.
Oh well...thanks for the correct one. :)

BTW: I'm still working on the P7 group with textures and, if I ever learn successfully to get the morphs out, character sets.
Some for retail but I will include a few freebies too.
So I'll be posting when I do that.

Just thought I would show how far I've got with this :-)

The freebie will probably not be as high-res as what's shown here; I think I'll be doing a low-ish res for free and save the high-res version for sale.

I will be including a version in the freebie for Koji 2 and Kelvin, but the skins will all be caucasian. You could always tint them in the mat room.

To be honest, I'd seriously be much more inclined to pay for the low-res version, because I don't think that the high resolution here equates to realism.   The bump / displacement is excessive.   It works for the lower face, where it can pass for stubble, but not over the cheekbones, on the nose, or on the forehead.   His texture tends to suggest a rather weather-beaten statue, rather than human skin.

Nazarene ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2007 at 12:07 AM

Hi...
I would be interested in having you tutor me in poser7. I could pay you by the amount of time you spend with me. I am a disabled vet and would like to learn. Is there a way to get a copy of Poser 7? God bless. Please write.

KarenJ ( ) posted Sat, 10 November 2007 at 6:27 AM

Ha, I was just coming here to post and you've bumped it for me!

Morgano, thanks for your feedback on the bumps. The effect you saw in the render above is not a bump map, it's just a noise node plugged into the bump channel. I just applied it for a quick render, since I don't like to start bump mapping until I've fully finished the maps. The finished bump map will be much more sohpisticated.

I have now largely finished the body map, as well as the head. I spent last night going cross-eyed staring at James's one-eyed trouser snake!! I've ended up applying a transmap to the genital to ensure a seamless fit with the body.

OK here are the latest WIP renders. Full nudity alert!

**Alan WIP 2

**I'm going to crack on with the heads for Koji and Kelvin today. I'll post an update later/tomorrow.

OMG! You wouldn't believe the mapping problems I'm now finding with Koji!

His lacrimals are split into two parts, and his inner eyelids and half of the lacrimals are like off the face map and over by his tongue. WTF????

I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to have to start Koji's head from scratch, and I guess Kelvin's as well. Would you guys prefer if I just wrap up "Alan" as he is rather than wait for the other figures?

I have a texture going for both Kelvin and koji.

On my Kelvin tex I also have a great face morph but now I need to make an INJ for him.
And thanks to Matrix, I migit accomplish that.

i may make a low=res version as a freebie minus the morph.
But I may be needing help at the rate things are going on my hands and with Mom still not doing good.
Kelvin and Koji were a challange but not reall so hard.

koji will most likely be a freebie.
I'll post some shots of both tonight if we don't have to rush Mom to the hospital, she's having difficulty again.

Well let me put it this way. I now have a set of bloody claw marks up my front and down my back. If I had someone to take some photographs, I'm sure I could provide some interesting reference shots of wounds and scratches!

OK, I think what I'm going to do is to package up "Alan" and get him out. And then I'll work on Koji and Kelvin as two more separate projects. This means that I'll be able to do skins the correct ethnicity for the model base, which is good. Otherwise I'm trying to shoehorn the James head texture into the Koji and Kelvin maps, which only makes for a muddied texture and loss of detail.

Hopefully I should have him wrapped up by tomorrow morning at the latest.

Yeah when EF went with totally different head meshes and UV maps for all the G2 figures it turned texturemaker's off right and left from supporting the figures. I'm glad to see you and BlueEcho willing to step up to the plate for these figures. Most certainly grateful as well.

KarenJ ( ) posted Sat, 10 November 2007 at 3:49 PM

I'll be honest, if I hadn't said publicly I was going to do this, I would have given up. James's mapping (well, all of the G2 mapping) is ludicrous. The disparity between the head and body resolution makes it realistically impossible to provide a photoreal body texture, because you'd need to size the body map so large that Poser wouldn't be able to handle it anyway.

On the body map, James's fingernails are actually larger than the palm of his hand. I mean come on! How can that be? How could the mapper think that could be a good arrangement? Since when would you want to do a super-hi-res closeup on a male model's fingermails, but be happy with his actual fingers looking like crap?

For all that V4's mapping makes it a pain to match the leg and torso seams, the division into three maps makes a lot of sense in terms of the hi-res detail you can pack into V4's textures.

Anyway, I'm just blowing off steam. I said I'd do this, and I will.... but damn! we've come a long way from Posette and Dork and their 512x512 maps, no?

Ye godz that sounds painful! Split lacrimals?  Is there a telethon for that ailment yet??

As far as washing cats, I'm split between the method of taking them to the car wash and hanging them from the clips where you wash your floor mats or using the lukewarm cycle with extra fabric softener and a fluff dry.

It may be a while before this is finished as I've got so much going on right now. Sometimes I think I need to clone myself a few times just to have help. Lol.

If someone wants to fiddle with the head tex to make it fit James and Koji, send me a site mail and I'll give a note that you can do it and post as a freebie. :)

Karen: Thank you for Alan. I used him for the Knight in the picture. :)

BluEcho: Lamont is beautiful. I am sure to come up with an idea that'll be perfect for him. :)

After seeing how hard it is, I am a bit hesitant to even ask, but the Psoer 7 kids have only their 'birthskins' available. It'd be so nice to have some variety for them. I presume no-one thinks such an endeavour has any commercial chance, otherwise there would be some on the market. Therefore I guess the only chance is to hope someone would generously tackle the challenge and make a freebie. Please. :)
