How important is networking on a site like this.

What I mean by that is how many more 'hits'  would one get from having the spare time to IM and email lots of people. Chatting about eachother's personal lifes and 'making friends'?

Do the people whom have time to do this have a foot up on those that don't? Do the people who can manage to include all of this 'netwoking' get more hits from the 'work' that they put in 'looking for leads/contacts'?

Or is it just par for the course and no matter what you do and if you have spare time to devote to living a virtual life not really matter. Does everyone get their dues regardless?
