practice practice practice
just having something to do with Photoshop will give you little problems to solve some of the simpler concepts and then you can expand on them and even experiment. From personal experience i can say that all play and no work makes Karosnikov a poor graphic artist, i tinker i make icons i make tiles, desktop backgrounds. I used to hold being a graphic artist on a pedestal, however I'm going to try and be a Binder now a post-art and post print, hands on guy who folds paper using machines all day but... I dabble
I have recently joined a soccer team and as amateur as we may be i thought having a set of collector cards, with players photo's stats and etc. Thinking this may help players feel they were important both me and the team, I used my investigator personality type and after google'n and looking at other propels examples I will be attempting to make a functional and informative yet artistic piece... no one trick will help this project be great, knowing them all even clouds an initiate such as I
develop your concept and nurture it as your skills grow so will your versatility. Try something specific and ask aout it - you'll probably learn many in's and out's , and the many possibilities there are within this program.
There used to be an archive of photoshop hints and tip even some mini-tutorials givin by members, even if we can't link back any re- asked questions are either dealt with again or linked back so bring your project to us or invent one just so you may learn more. I think the tools of the trade, the paint brush, the selection tool, the clone tool and healing brush, the dodge and burn can each be in turn used to assist your needs. PS is just waiting for you to BRING IT ON.

Look at www.lynda.com. PS experts will show you few tips & tricks through vids. :)
But learn all the tools, experiment allot play with blend modes, etc. That will be your best training, after you can learn effects, and techniques from internet tuts. :)
99% of tuts. will just show you what values to input and in what order to achieve effect. But they will not tell you why they did specific step and why is value high or low. So if you not familiar with the tools you`ll be lost outside of that tut. ;)
