I'm trying to render a black and white ToonPro image at a large enough size so I can print it. I set the render size to 8.5x11 and the dpi to 600, and I get "An unknown error has occurred" message. I've tried this in both C5 and C6 and I can only get as high as 150 dpi for a print resolution.
Any ideas?

maybe Next time put "Help with render error " in the header... makes it more easy for other to see if they can help you
....just putting HELP in the header is not that handy..
A load of people dont check those "empty header ebots"
So you might Mis out on some good helping hands
But unless you have to print over 20x20 feet orso you dont need 600DPI...
The size of a 600 dpi image is extreem big and 99% of the time it will crash you system.
But unable to reach 300dpi dont look normal...
You better check polyloop or DAZ forums for more detail if this is a bug

insufficient RAM or scratch disk space? 8.5X11X600X600X4 = 128 MB

Bar-Code -
Yeah, not the most descriptive subject line around. I was trying to writethenote quickly before I had to go and make dinner for the family.
I'm trying to go for 600 dpi since that's the resolution my laser printer is capable of. Plus my project requires the stuff be ready for print so I have to make my images accordingly or they'll look to pixelated.
Miss Nancy-
I've got 1GB RAM and 1GB scratch disk space. I thought that would be enough...

Actually more people will read this thread to find out what kind of help is needed, rather than just skipping over it.
That error message usually means to remove unused shaders and objects, save scene to disk, close Carrara and open file, render. If error again, defrag hard drive.
Does the scene render without using Toon Pro?
SmallFry posted Mon, 05 November 2007 at 9:40 PM
Ah, that defrag hard drive thing? Rats! That'll take a lot of time. Thanks, Shonner. Anything else I should be aware of?
I haven't tried rendering without ToonPro only because I've set up all the Shaders to work with ToonPro. Maybe I can re-import my Poser file and try it that way without ToonPro.

Basically you're just trying to help Carrara better find RAM and virtual RAM to work its scene in, assuming there is no corruption in your CAR file already.

Good one Shonner. I wonder how many people defrag ( and other cleanups) on a regular, MONTHLY? basis.

note to OS X and possibly some vista users: it's a bad idea to defrag an OS X drive, and if vista was based on OS X, then it's probly a bad idea to defrag a vista drive, unless they really did a bad job of copying jaguar, in which case defrag would be necessary.

Um.... why?
SmallFry posted Tue, 06 November 2007 at 9:38 PM
So I defragged my hard drive, which went faster than I thought. However, I can't get my renders to be larger than 1200x1600 or 1600x1200. C5 tells me "An unknown error has occurred".
It is a puzzlement...
ShawnDriscoll posted Tue, 06 November 2007 at 11:29 PM
Are you rendering to a file? That may be better than rendering to the screen.
SmallFry posted Wed, 07 November 2007 at 8:01 AM
Good idea! Let me try that...
SmallFry posted Wed, 07 November 2007 at 8:42 AM
Ha! I've got it! It's the ToonPro renderer... it won't let me render larger than 1200x1600. As soon as I render with the Photorealistic renderer, it works.
Thank you to all of the people who offered help. I'm off to chat with the kind folks at the Digital Carvers Guild!

FYI -
Eric at DCG was working on a fix for ToonPro already so he's sent me a fix that I'm trying out.
