know the feeling. Try Google itself , they have a pic search that's handy sometimes. Also try fan sites, which can have stuff that works.

Yeah, I tried Google and Yahoo images, and just regular searching on Google. Didn't think to try putting "fansite" in the search though! I'll give that a try. Thanks.

The series is doing so poorly you better grab stuf about him while you can before it vanishes! Check it's official forums over at Sci-fi.. I don;t think I've seen anpother series launch this panned, except last year's "Night Stalker"...

Ah! Yes, I'll check the forums! Thanks!
I don't know why the series is dooing so poorly...my hubby and I think it's awesome. It's one of a small handful of shows we never miss each week. Oh well, here's hoping (real hard!) for a season 2.

Have you ever read flash gordon at all? or seen any of the older incarntions? They pretty much kept a few character's names, and tossed everything else out. That's why there has been the huge backlash.
They should hav ejust made up a new show name, and not pretended to be Flash Gordon, IMHO.
There have been impending rumors of it's cancellation since episode 3.

I've never seen the original series or read any of the comics, and I've only seen part of the movie. So I'm pretty much a "newbie" to the whole FG thing. Any deviations from the original would be completely lost on me...except I did notice that they made Flash a track star instead of a football player.
If it really is so far from the original story, then I can definitely understand how the die hard fans would be upset. But as for me...I absolutely love it. My hubby too, and he knows more about the original FG than I do. I really hope they don't cancel it. I'm on the SCIFI FG forums right now, and I'm seeing a lot of hate towards it...but there are also those who like/love too. Ah well...I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah you never know about these things. The ratings have been so bad, with the writer's stirke I think that will spell it's death knell.. probably the same thing will happen to the new Bionic Woman show as well.
Heroes is 1/2 wqy through thier story arc, and they can;t wrap it up, and Lost hasn;t even begun to air yet, but the first 1/2 of the episodes set you up for the later episodes, which won;'t be done again because of the writer's strike.
They are predicting that will kill a LOT of shows without really strong viewing numbers.

I hadn't heard anything about this writer's strike (what rock am I living under??!!) so I Googled it and I'm reading this article right now:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21251689/
Wow...I had no idea! I'm really nervous to see how this all pans out. I love LOST, Stargate Atlantis, Flash Gordon, Law & Order CI, Monk, Psych, and Eureka. If those go down the tubes I'll be lost! I have pretty much zero interest in reality shows. :(

They showed the pilot for the new Flash Gordon over here not too long ago, it really was awful but I had to watch it right to the end anyway.

Yep.. thw riter's strike could be a HUGE blow to shows that are telling 'arc" storylines and plan for their season finale's to blow peopel away. the heroes team was actually re-writing their last "written" episode, since they won;t be back till next season.. and they JUST finally started to build up steam after being off track for the first 8 episodes.
Thing is, the writers are totally justified on the strike.. there's an excellent youtube video that expalains why they are striking, and what they are striking for.

As long as it's not those shysters rehashing 80s movies & trying to pass them off as new improved versions. They deserve nothing in my opinion apart from a kick up the rear.

Flash Gordon is produced in Canada. How would the writers strike effect that show or is the Writers Guild international?

I'm pretty sure the writer's guild is international, otherwise all the major network shows would have shifter production elsewhere, rather then loose millions of dollars. LOL!

the production (sets, actors, etc) is in Canada, but the writers are in the US. Plus, often one union honors another's strike, so they don't cross picket lines, etc.
The oldest Flash Gordon I remember was a black-and-white serial (honestly, before even my time), with someone named Buster Crabbe (could I make that up?...;) or...I think it is.
Internet Movie Database would have more.

The biggest resource for Flash Gordon is actually the comic strips, but there have been many comic books, regualr books, and even a animated series as well with ming having loose ties to hitler in it.
While the new show probably could have had far less controversy had it been called something liek rift riders or some such, they chose a "name" and even went so far as to use the old flash gordom queen music in promos for it before launch. marketing really should have known better.

Buster Crabbe was a two time Olympic medal winner in swimming. Best known for his portrayal of Flash Gordon in 3 serials in the 1930's. He also portrayed Tarzan and Buck Rogers. In the serials, Ming the Merciless was played by Charles Middleton. There was no eviler, more vile, villan than Charles Middleton as Ming. The Flash Gordon serials were inspirations to George Lucas for Star Wars. In fact Lucas duplicated many of the camera effects used to change scenes in the serials in Star Wars. The Flash Gordon serials were "space opera" at it's best. I encourage anyone that is a fan of scifi adventure to see them.
It's all fun and games...

I dunno.. Max Von Sydow's Ming is outstanding. This new show's Ming is more like an bad corporate executive in comparison.

Using a monthly newsletter freebie, A "Doctor Strange" costume (from a few years ago), I was able to create this:
It's similar to the outfit Max von Sydow wore within the ruins of the Hawkmen's floating city.

That's pretty good. Someone needs to use faceshop pro, and do a Max "Ming" headmorph/texture.
Sounds lik Bionic Woman has already been given the ase.. wonder if Flash is going to follow in her footsteps?

Thanks, Khai. I simply either toned down the existing blue themed texture (or omitted it entirely), kept the bump maps and changed the base color to a dried blood red. Viola!
The face texture was a former freebie from Mec4D. The face morph was something I toyed with using Boris for Micheal 2 (not really attempting Sydow's features, just something with a hawkish nose, slanted brows and a nasty scowl).
Sincerely,
Bill

Max was pretty good, although the 1980 movie was less an action/adventure film and more a "tongue in cheek/campy" version of Flash Gordon. I'll take Charles Middleton's dramatic, evil Ming over Max Van Sydow's Ming anyday.
