Here's another one -- idea suggested by Geek in an earlier thread: Something on your desk. This took me about 20 minutes to make, but it was fun. Everything except the desk surface is a free-form (spline) model. I booleaned the notches in the binder part of the binder clips. As usual, I'm working in RDS 5.5.

Wow, those look pretty real.

OK, here's mine. It's nothing to sneeze at! Well, actually, it probably is. --Terri

Mine is a screwdriver as you can see . Don't ask me why there is one on my desk ! It was a good occasion for me to play with the spline modeller for once . The scene was done in 15 min, but i wasn't happy with it so i've worked 10 more minutes to finalize it . Chip, your * are great ! =) litst*

Just a little tacky image, took less than 15 minutes for the model, but tack on about 10 to get the image to look better.

Here's mine. I thought just the book looked too plain, so I put in a paper/paper weight. Reflective spheres always add realism =)

Cool stuff, all! Hope to see more in this thread, particularly from Geek, since he suggested this subject! I think I have an idea for the next one; will post it after I catch up on the rest of the postings in the forum! One question -- Elite Goliath -- do I see a Hubble telescope image reflected in your paperweight? Whatever it is, it looks like caustic internal reflection / refractions.

twillis posted Mon, 16 April 2001 at 10:56 AM

I think the image on the paperweight looks like a face.(Of the person sitting at the desk? Or a ghost?) Or maybe it's a test, to see what deep dark secrets are revealed by what we see in the paperweight. Maybe EliteGoliath is working on a psychology paper, and we're the guinea pigs! Seeing the image as a face gives the pic (for me, at least) a sort of haunted feel. But then, I've been reading horror comics all weekend, so take that with a grain of salt.
