Okay, I've followed the advice of all my new best friends, and still can't get the lights to stay outside the damned car.  I have posted absolutely all details with screen captures as instructed.  Please, please, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.  GO TO THE LINK ABOVE THE PICTURE.  Bagginsbill?  Somebody?

If you want, check out some of my Poser stuff where I actually succeeded in getting what I wanted look at http://straightlife.info/TI2.html

First thing I noticed was there seems to be no chackbox on the Plymouth for "Cast Shadows", which is bacause you have "Body" selected on the car.  You need to check the body parts of the vehicle and ensure "Cast Shadows" is enabled.

Next, your render settings window is too small to see in the link you provided so I can't really tell what's going on there.  I would strongly recommend you don't use Auto settings, though.

It may just be that light is passing through the car roof.  This happens sometimes but it's nothing to do with the light itself, it's more the way the model is made.  You could try putting a flattened box primitive inside the roof of the car to help mask the light, if all else fails.

One thing to note - ignore the Preview.  It's always wrong when it comes to where the llights are shining and what they are doing.  It's a rough guide only and no indicator of your final render.

The body parts of the car don't include the roof! they only include the moving parts. I'm gonna try to contact Schurby and see if he has any clues.

Sam! Thanks! I looked again under body parts for "Plymouth" and found "plymouth." I selected "casts shadows." I went to render and selected manual render. And selected render shadows. At last I have exactly what I wanted when I began this madness two days ago. It works. Ignorance is so exhausting.

Yay! Good to hear that it all worked out.  We may not be the fastest at getting a solution but we ain't bad.

Oh! I just figured out what your Latin quote says. And I never even studied Latin. That's one of my maxims as well.
