How does one make a particular shaped pattern of terrain using the terrain editor, for example, say you're making cookies and you roll out a sheet of dough and then you use a cookie cutter in the shape of a heart or what have you, after which you pull up the excess dough and you are left with only just the shapes you just cut out.
I tried to get a particular shape for a terrain in Carrara but the only way that I could was to import one by way of using photoshop and Vue's terrain editor (they have a clip function). Any help woul be greatly appreciated.

If your using PS, why not paint what you want in grayscale and import that. You can even convert an image of something to greyscale and import that. Just some of the ways I have done it.

Ok, I will give that a try

I would guess an alfa channel or trans map would work.
You could even use the modeling room and cut it out. You may need to export it as an .obj first then import it back in to do that.

Are trying to do what Bryce does with terrains as far as making objects using the terrain editor?

Yes

You might be able to boolean cut the back side, after converting to vertex, to remove the plane. Or delete the plane's polygons manually. There may be a faster way. I don't use Carrara for modeling, so I don't know all its tricks.

I don't think you can do that in the Carrara terrain editor. Thats what the spline modeler is for. Just make a small spline item, it's a lot easierthan the vertex modeler for something like that.

Quote - You can use the alpha channel or transparency in the terrain distribution shader to clip or remove parts of the terrain. It works very well
Ok could you give me the steps to do this proceedure as you might guess I am still a little bit new with Carrara, by the way I have both 5&6 Pro.
Thank You
