Okay, I've got Daz Studio version: 1.4.16.0

I want to update to version: 1.8 or whatever it's called.

I've downloaded the prog or update... whatever...

My questions are I hope simple:

  1. do I double click on the downloaded daz...exe or is there some other way to install an update?

  2. how do I make sure I don't get billions of folders in the contents list?? as I only have a few there and would prefer to add just the occassional thing as I want to use it - otherwise I can't find anything with too many folders to search through.

Try this:

First uninstall 1.4. Then go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove Microsoft C+ Visual Studio. Also uninstall any plug-ins. Then install 1.8.

"Then go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove Microsoft C+ Visual Studio."

Ah.

I really don't think I want to do that.  Never having had to do it before on previous DS updates.  That's a fairly basic level program, isn't it, goodness knows what else uses that, which would then be trolluxed up.

Are you absolutely sure it's vital to do that?

I don't remember having to do that before...

I did it with my install of 1.8. Otherwise just back up your plugins. Delete them and install 1.8.
1.8 have their own plugins.

Fran I just installed 1.8 and followed the instructions as it installed.
If you need to clean up extra folders after I guess you can go in and do that..I didn't have to.
And C+ will be installed by the program if you don't have the updated version..

Just install, allowing it to add the MSVC runtimes and to uninstall the old version (which you should not have running at the time). When you are asked if you want to kep the previous search results, say Yes and your content folders will be as they were.

Okay, got it done now.  Not sure about what Plug-ins I had...

Too late now though.

AnnieD,

I'll look there... if I can first find the normal movement controls which seem to be missing in D/S 1.8.

Help? Anyone?

How do I navigate, move primatives (or anything else) in this so very different and confusing looking DazStudio?

Fran..the first thing I did was go in and set my work area back to the classic one.. (kinda like you can do with XP to use the old win 98 layout)
anyway..that put my tools right where I  knew they should be.  ;)

Other than that..you can find your tools  and dock them where you want them..they are under the main menu..you just need to put them wherever you want.

Arrrghhhh!  Which one of these totally strange new menus is the MAIN one?

And how do you get it to look like it used to (i.e. classic)????

When it was installing I let it go with "basic" which I hoped was normal - but it isn't - nothing looks normal at all.

I'm not saying I don't like the look of the layout but if I can't find the things I need to navigate normally, then I'm not going to be able to use it, so....

Please help? (small plaintive voice)

Here is how I did it.

Go to 'view' and then go to 'interface layout'  go to 'select layout' and on the right side of the pop up window..at the top ...will be a little pull down menu and in there are the styles you can pick from...including basic and classic.
You can go to each one and it shows you what it basically looks like and you can also edit whichever one you choose by moving the toolbars around or hiding them..etc.
All of it is done from the view menu...just take the time to look thru it all.

After you have chosen a work area and fixed it like you want it...be sure to save it so it will be there for you when you go back....

Okay, now my PC's hard drive has melted, so now I'm back to working on the laptop, which has the old version of D/S.

so I have a new question...

Can I install version 8 and still keep the older version workable?

I upgraded to D|S 1.7, found it wasn't compatible with WIN98SE, so I had to downgrade all the way back to 1.4.16 without all the current updates. In the meantime I did find the installation was quite easy, no problems, and it is possible to make the interface look identical to the 'classic' version then save the setup ( I sometimes get 'mouse happy' and screw up the settings!). And you can delete all the other interfaces from their folder, if you look for it.

when i upgraded i just intalled 1.8 over1.7 and it workded fine but the 1.8 has some little errors that i dont like so i went back to 1.7

FranOnTheEdge posted Fri, 11 January 2008 at 7:17 PM

I couldn't quickly find 1.8 when installing everything to the new Hard drive in the PC so I put the one I did find on it, which turned out to be good ole 1.4.16 - it's working fine, no probs, so as it ain't broke I don't think I'll bother to 'fix it'.

Might upgrade later on.
