I was wondering why, when I import a character they end up dismembered? This usually happens why I try to import something in/from 3DS format.

IIRC, there's a "new" implementation of 3DS which hoses figures on import to Poser.  I've had similar things happen with cars.  Wheels missing or out of place and the like.

Is there a way to fix it?

Do you have a way to convert the model(s) to obj format and see if the same thing happens then? I know Poser can be a picky little snot sometimes...so that could possibly "fix" things.

When exporting from 3DS for Poser you want to export in OBJ format, and make facet shape quads (in export options).

It's even better if you make sure that you collapse geometry before exporting. I don't remember correctly if OBJ export automatically collapses all modifiers, or if it simply skips items that it can't descrive in OBJ or 3Ds format. It's been a long time since I tried exporting uncollapsed geometry.

Another thing that may be happening is due to poser not displaying backfacing faces in preview. Hard to tell from the pic if there are rally missing parts, or just backfacing faces.
They will render, but no display in preview.

HTH :)
