Hey, this picture has great potential... Done right could be very funny... :) Actually, it's very funny as is... :) I like it anyway... Anyway, you may know this or you may not know this, but Mitch has a fantastic texture for the bass which I think he has for download...

Look great Mike! The lighting from below is too powerful. Turn off shadow for the light and lower the power more just enough to make the bass be seen. The texture look like those of coral grouper. The bass does look like a grouper....saltwater needed...LOL! Where is the frog?..in the tummy now? :) Well done Mike!
bloodsong posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 12:56 PM
heyas; mike, you need my frogs. remapped frog, leopard frog, bull frog, tree frogs and poison arrow frogs galore. um, problem is, the archive is at poserworld and i dont have it. ;) (i wonder when poserworld will be back up, so i can go get them...)
MikeJ posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 1:00 PM
Oh, talk about a tease! But that sounds great, and I guess when Poser World opens back up, I'll have to buy a subscription. Anyhow, do you know where I might find some pictures of a leopard frog? My multiple search engine program, Easy Seeker, seems to have gotten corrupted and will not work, so I'm stuck with Jeeves, and the going is slow....

Hi Mike- I bought the Bass about a month ago, AFTER I saw the great Mitch Seite tex-maps. I will buy any fish creature that has good maps and his are excellent!... I also got Robert the Wiz's Triggerfish after seeing Laurie's excellent free maps for it. These maps really add value to having these models... Here's a link to a California Fish and Game website on Bass. "Sea Bass", "Sand Bass" and "Kelp Bass" are some of the many variations of this sometimes VERY BIG fish...MikeJ posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 5:57 PM
Hey thanks again, F-M! Here, on Florida's East coast (Jacksonville Beach), wew have alot of red spotted ses bass, a member of the drum family, which for all intents and purposes are very similar to their freshwater counterparts, although listed as semi-endangered, due to their incredible flavor when cooked---mmmmm...balckened redfish...mnmmmmm.... But I personally think this DAZ bass is wel worth it simply due to its' shape--- it could just as easily become any species of bass, with the proper texture, and with a minor amount of morphing in Poser, a perch, or maybe even a pike. That's the first thing I try to see in a Poser model--- not what it IS, but what it can ALSO become. So thanks for the link to the pics! :) And Bill, I almost forgot, thanks for the tips! Grouper? Yeah, I agree, but the groupers we have here aren't quite as colorful, though close.

Hey Fox, save up some $$, Robert's has a Yellow Fin Tuna out at Daz by sometime next week :)
Fox-Mulder posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 7:15 PM
I have been bugging him for about two weeks. I was hoping it would be at DAZ by this weekend so I could get a sale price on it. RBT said he was sending it over this weekend but its NOT up there yet, unfortunately. I have all of his other fish creatures so far... Looks like I may have to run over and get the Michael period clothing pack, however. I'm not big on buying fashion items, but Laurie has posted at Free Stuff some incredibly detailed Renaissance Era texmaps for this pack, so I began to get a picture of Renaissance Mike standing on the deck of a classic sailing ship- looking for a New World, or maybe a really good bass fishing spot! (Sea Bass and some good white wine!)... Striped Bass are so popular, as you know, that they have been nearly all fished out. How about a "Save The Striped Bass!" Vue Contest...
MikeJ posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 7:37 PM
I have only once ever caught a striper, and that was while surf fishing for shark! He wasn't that big, and I often catch bluefish much larger.

If you want something really colorful, check out the url for the freshwater peacock bass native to Central America and Brazil. They were introduced to southern Florida in 1984. Something like a largemouth, but yellow with black spotted tail, black bands and red fins, really nice. manowarFox-Mulder posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:08 PM
Nice bass link. Hopefully someone like Laurie will make a Peacock Bass texture for the DAZ Bass (but with Photoshop, that one nice pic might just do...)
Daffy34 posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:12 PM
The very best texture I ever saw for the bass was one that our very own dear Tesign did himself! He was nice enough to give it to me once...it seems like years ago (maybe it was! LOL!). Anyhoo, when I first started getting to know Bill he gave me his first bass texture, but not having a CD burner then and a subsequent crash took care of that. It's okay tho...I've never bought the bass yet anyway!! Oh, and Bill? If you want to post some of your creations to share with the rest of us poor inept folks, I'll be glad to host them on my site. wink, wink. No pressure tho, just a thought. Don't want you to feel like you have to, just pulling your leg a bit :). But your bass texture really is the best one I've seen! Laurie

Daffy34 posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:21 PM
Oh, and Fox? I don't have the bass model, but I'm have tempted to run over to DAZ and grab the template and try it out. Ya wanna test the texture for me if I do? ;) Thanks for your compliments on my textures. I personally don't feel that they're that great...I'm still just learning to texture really and I feel I have far to go. But I always plod on...trying texturing, trying modeling. So much to learn, so little time....(sigh). My only saving grace as far as texturing is my knowledge of Photoshop; been using it since before version 3 all those years ago. Laurie
tradivoro posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:22 PM
Well, I don't know what kind of bass that would be either, but it looks better than the first one you showed, so it's a more welcome bass.. :) And yes, this second scene is definitely more happening, an improvement in all the elements, from the wood, to the lighting to the camera angel...
Daffy34 posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:26 PM
Geeze Fox, you really gotta stop giving me so many ideas, LOL! I don't have time for this! ;) Laurie
Fox-Mulder posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 10:31 PM
I would be happy to test a bass texture, Laurie. I just happened to think too if the DAZ Bass has some controls to make it look like the different salt-water and fresh-water species. I better go fire-up the bass and take a look...

I'm coming into this late, and my "massive" fishing experience includes such highlights as pulling in blue gills, bullheads, trout that were just large enough to keep and netting smelt. My best fish experience is eating fresh catfish! :d So...all's I'm gonna say is hey Mike, the first image is really humorous, and the second is a much nicer texture! :)
Insane Ltd. posted Sun, 15 April 2001 at 11:12 AM
Nice one, Mike. :oP~ I think there's a "silver bass" texture on Mitch's site too, that you might want to try.

I bought that bass and have dsone a bit with it, but not as much as I would like to do. Really bought it to make it into a Koi and haven't yet, but that is what I am striving for. I will post my first bass texture soon for ya too.. Just a quickie but I liked how it turned out.

Good God, Bill, that's INCREDIBLE! I was planning on trying to come up with some morphs for the bass, so maybe I'll get at it. What I lack in modeling, I'd like to think I can make up for in morphing, and with Rhino it's so unbelievably easy for many things. I was just reading a new morph tutorial of Travelers' that explains using the Rhino command, "flow" (along curve) to alter large sections of a mesh in a very predictable way, easily, so this might make working on the bass easier. And this picture of yours' here gives me some good ideas, both for texturing and morphing. I have to say I'm HIGHLY disappointed with Zygote's texture for it, particularly in the maxillae. As for what kind it is, I would say a largemouth fresh water bass is what they were trying for, what with the stripe down its' side, but I have no idea what they were thinking when they made that texture, again, particularly the mouth and eyes. Oh yeah, and they didn't bother to give it any scales, either!

See what I mean folks?! Wow! I was right...LOL! "Bill's Bass Is Best"! Go ahead and let me know what you decide Bill if you really want to post some of your things. I think you downplay your skills quite a bit...I've always thought all of your things were awesome! ;) Laurie

Has anyone put it on a plague and made the old thing sing a tune yet? LOL Bill!! That is wonderful! Are you planning to make it into a Koi? hehehe I have a pond that needs Koi fishies...
Fox-Mulder posted Mon, 16 April 2001 at 6:27 PM
Wow, Bill, you really are the Bass-Texture master, as well as great 3D artist. I would certainly pay for a fine map like that. i didn't even know Zygote had it...
Fox-Mulder posted Mon, 16 April 2001 at 6:30 PM
BTW, I think the Zygote-Daz Bass was probably designed to be the one on the plaque that talks and sings. He probably has a mouth to handle speech (probably true- has anyone checked?...)

Petunia - Koi?....LOL!...love too, wish to and pray it would be if ever a millennium fish comes around....this one can't do much, may be the closes, a small mouth...then again, the dorsal spine and head shape are all different. May be with Mike experience with Rhino, he may be able to come up with one, or even bloodsong. I just know how to buy them :) About that bass that sing...LOL!...I almost bought it. Heard that when you press the button, it start 'flapping' sing "don't worry, be happy...put me back in the water...LOL! Really, that's a very realistic bass....close to a taxidermy one. Fox-M - You may be right but that singing bass has hell of a texture work on it. I really do not know how and where Zygote got their reference from when working on the bass. Mike - You are right that its a big mouth. You can tell this by the eyes of the fish over the maxilla. The small mouth bass eyes end of line is inline to the end of the inner maxilla.
MikeJ posted Tue, 17 April 2001 at 3:51 AM
Hey, I have that singing bass! It sings Don't Worry, Be Happy, and Take Me To The River.... LOL! And it IS a very good likeness, as well, if not a little small.... Funny thing about Bass-- I used to catch almost only smallmouth bass in this one river in Pennsylvania, and only largemouth in the lake that was fed by this same river. The smallmouths liked to hit on very quickly-retrieved bucktail spinners, whereas I almost always caught the Largemouths on surface plugs or plastic worms, slowly retrieved. I also caught alot of pickerel in that same lake. Smallmouth's don't have the stripe down the side, at least not as pronounced, and yeah I knew about the eye/mouth thing, but I guess I forgot.
tesign posted Tue, 17 April 2001 at 4:17 AM
Heh Mike....I think you got mixed up. Its the small mouth that got 'stripe'. Its very obvious on their side face. These are actually underlying scale pattern.

I normally try and keep from promoting my work/products on any of the forums, I think it's a bit tacky. That said, in the humblest way I know how, I'd like to inform those that were interested know... It's a little later than expected (for good reason), but the Tuna mentioned above is now available. Considering the number of emails I've recieved about this particular figure and the fact that its been mentioned in this thread... I figured I could "kill a few birds with one stone". I apologize to any who think I'm hijacking this thread... I don't mean to. Thanks for your time.
