Well, just got done watching it.
And IMO it is on the same level as Unforgiven.
But I am a junkie for this kind of stuff. Yeah, I know it promotes violence, murder and the like...but as an old friend used to say, "There's honor among theives."
Crowe did a great job, not too much, not too little...didn't try to impose his will upon the story but was a part of it, excellent. A really great job by Brolin too.
Really enjoyed it. I sensed what their agreement was toward the end but was still unsure (until the end). Even then Wade was still putting himself out in the line of fire, even got hit.
But as gut level western's go, this was way cool. If you are into this kind of stuff, a definate see.

Very good movie, easily one of the 2007's best. My wife and I spent a good hour arguing about what Ben Wade was thinking at the end of the movie. Thoughts?

IMO...He turned himself in so that the reward money would be sent to that guys (brolins) wife. Wade liked him, and felt that he was honestly trying to better his family and himself...so Wade honored that.

I'm glad that this has been getting good reviews. I wanted to see it but missed out in the theater, but should be available for rent here (Canada) soon so I'll check it out. As for movies in the theaters, both Juno and Charlie Wilson's War are fantastic. David

Should I admit I was yelling at the TV for people's deaths at the end when Bale's character got shot? (watching movies with me is an adventure....but I do behave myself in the theater)
My mother even liked it....and she doesn't usually like shoot-em-up type movies. This is most definately a must see flick.
Crazy alien chick FTW! (yeah....right....)
Realm of Savage - Poser

It wasn't about the money: by getting into the train, Wade allowed Evans to finally get the respect that he deserved from his son. Getting on the train at the end, when he could have walked away, demonstrated that. He'd shown William his father's sacrifice hadn't been for nothing.
Of course, he planned on escaping eventually. He'd told Evans as much in the station when he revealed he'd already escaped from Yuma twice, which Evans had accepted. One way or the other, Evans would be remembered as the man who'd stood up to Wade and his gang and kept his word, any subsequent escape clearly not his fault.
