No 5D successor means disappointed Canon fans. It looks like this new camera comes with a new kit lens.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

Agreed, many are upset on some of the other forums I am part of. Thouhg is Canon's defence they havent even hinted a replacement was coming. I think much of the 5D replacement centers around the D300 release. If canon is planning on upgrading a near perfect camera I am banking that they are putting a ton of effort in the R&D as they really can't afford another 1DM3 situation again.

And what a superb 'entry level' DSLR!!

It does have some very nice features. Let's see how it performs in the real world! :o)

Yeah, really nice for enrty level.

But it does not have enough 'kick' to make me trade in my 400D.
And it comes off, to a point, of putting too much of the 'point and shoot' camera features in.

Yeah, when are they going to take a page from the Oly and Fuji playbook and put in 2 media card slots?

They did - the 1D line (at least the newer ones) have two slots (CF and SD afaik) - it is a "pro-level" feature...but also quite worrying considering the whole of the canon line is CF cards and upgrading will be that bit harder in the future if all newer additions to the canon lineup follow suit...

Regarding the SD slot....I think it is an attempt by Canon to lure folks over from the point & shoot crowd into this level of DSLR.  The concern has always been...."Oh...I already have SD cards so I won't buy a CF camera"...pretty poor logic seeing that memory has become so cheap these days.....

Almost the same as cramming (now) 14 MP into a P&S size sensor....More MP is what the market wants.....they think it is better than an 8 MP camera....but it comes with inherently more noise...at least so far....

Has Canon made all it's PMA announcements yet? So far I have only seen announcements for one DSLR and 4 digicams. No lenses at all? If so, this year's would be a rather poor crop.

One at the moment...EF 800 f5.6...around the UK £9000 mark.
