Thanks to Mark Bremmer for the answer about Hexagon Pivot points not transferring while saving to .car file....

But is there anyway to set the hot point / rotation point to an object in Carrara by snapping to a point?  (rather then manually moving the hot point with CAPS lock, or by numerical input)

 No, unfortunately. That is a feature found in most modeling programs. However, the Carrara assembly room is not a modeling area so I guess that it has avoided some of those "nice-eties". I think I'll head over to the DAZ site and make a request though. Can't believe it hadn't occured to me before.

Not that this helps, but on the Mac you can get the point to snap to the grid by holding down the Control key AFTER you start clicking and dragging.

Holding Control also works on PC by they way for snapping to the grid, but you are, right it does not help in this instance.
