Weird 4 sure...can this be reproduced with another similar image...ie: a new ocean, model, lighting, but same camera setup....what happens ehen you change the FOV on the camera?.. ...

what mat did you use on the terrain and square plane it might be what did it.

That is insane. Love it!

Did you try selecting all and stepping back the cam view? ...or checking the object list?

Was any part of this Bryce file a merge with another?

It's really cool what ever it is.

Might call it a SOW ghost....whhoooooooooooo.

Hi,played around with this a while, learning how to control the 'thing'.it works for any scene (well the three I tried!)   Either a square, circle or plane set facing the camera, close to it and between the object.  In Materials  Lab,clear everything from the A B C D chanellsand set all values to 0.Then  set transparency to 100,and refraction to between 15 to 30.  cheers! Jed.

**Well I got intrigued so I loaded a gig shot of Roldo and myself onto a 2D plane and set a number of squares with settings similar to the ones above except I had my Refraction much higher and I varied it slightly over the three. Also varied the distance tweeb camera na squares. It seems to work a bit like a microscope doesn't it...you can notice where the squares over lap a bit more exaggeration of the magnification as well...cool trick...good for abstracts out of *real stuff* for sure.. ...**

wow! that is some effect. I like the boat and those waves, and it's really weird how the "sphere" came out. Really neat tho. But weird in a good sort of way.

Yeah; you guys have re-discovered Vile's Telescope! Lens effects work in Bryce including refraction. Now if you discover how to bounce a laser beam off a mirror . . .

lordgoron posted Thu, 07 February 2008 at 2:14 AM

Awsome effect :)

Some basic rules of optics definitely work in Bryce, has anybody tried to construct a working refractor yet? ;)

lordgoron posted Thu, 07 February 2008 at 2:30 AM

Err.. yes it works (kind of)... So working telescopes to magnify objects can be made in Bryce ;)

First is with one lense, the second with a second lens...

LOL I've got a pic on the back-burner that needs just this thing! Thanks, Guys! You just solved half my problem.

there's a very old Bryce tut (probably Bryce 4) which showed this effect. You could make planetary orbit pictures with it, if'n I remember rightly...;)

Pakled,
I remember that! :)
Alas I deleted all my bryce tuts, as I save tuts all the time...probably on a back up CD someplace.

basically you use a lens in front of the camera, to warp the ground/atmosphere into a gentle arc, giving a space-like effect.
In Vue, you can do a similar trick by altering the Camera's field of View.

I recall having a magnifying glass object in Bryce, that did exactly that: magnify as per real glass :)
And a telescope, isn't one or other a default bryce item?

You don't need a lens, just a circle or square like bobbystahr used above...

**Further to my lil test pic, if anyone is interested in hearing what we sounded like that night here's a link...bear in mind we both had massive colds and as this was a reunion of the 2 surviving members of our original jug band, [we hadn't played these tune in* well nigh onto 30 years]* and only had a few weeks to remember 3 sets...not *too* shabby for that....enjoy. My advice is pick the ones you like and delete the rest after you've dl'd it...there is a *fair bit of crap* IMHO.. ...**
