Two things I did not know which I figured out from the link you provided:

Flight Sim 2002 allows you to create models and
People still use GMAX even though support for it terminated in 2005.

Interesting - I wonder if the .OBJ exporter works again in GMAX - I deleted G as some gosh awful MS update ruined that functionality - I think that was about the time G's support was ungraciously yanked because some after the bomb 'marketing executive' thought they were losing sales - for such an overly-expensive program MAX sure can be cheap... but I digress.
