I think the big thing a lot of us want to know is can we use it for a commercial render ie if we make a pic and the little free flowerpot or house is in one corner of the image, can we sell the pic.
i don't put anything in my runtime if it says not for commercial render,
But this isn't clear. I know we can email the author if unsure, but why not just state it on the readme and save us all hassle and mistakes.

there used to be a canned 'readme' file in freebies. It's years old, but might still be there.

i wish people would use that. It's not nice to download lovely stuf then have to email people then have to wait then have to throw it in the bin. and also hard for non-english speaking people. eg in the example in my first post - by saying you may not redistribute the files but not saying one can't sell the renders one would tend to assume you could sell your renders. However in the other line he states "personal projects" although he doesn't say "only" hmmmm love esther

I know lets give the freestuff coordinators something to do over the weekend, split the freestuff right down the middle, 2 new categories, commercial use & non commercial use, but with all the original categories intact under them. shouldn't take more than an hour to sort that lot out ;)
Yes I'm being silly but if there was something like that in place it would make life easier for the people who use freebies in their work related renders.

In the OLD Freestuff setup that Rendo used to have here, there WAS something just like that. When you submitted a freebie, it had checkboxes to click on the submission page. If it was something allowed for commercial use, you checked the box.... it was that simple... it went away when they rewrote their code... When this site was redesigned, we **LOST **as much functionality as we gained. The 'commercial' checkboxes on freebie submissions was one of those little functions that we lost...

Don't you guys think you'd be better off posting this in the Freestuff forum?
Just sayin'

Why? we'd miss out on the biggest audience of the site as this does happen to be the busiest forum on here ;)

OH yeah, I'd forgotten all about that, time to start a "bring back the checkboxes" campaign?

Actually- there is a third catagory. Commercial, Non-commercial and public domain.
I'd like to have the P.D. listed also. It just makes life so damn much easier. I know for myself that everything I've put into freestuff is PD.

Well, maybe other forums would get a bit busier if they were used for their purpose. :tongue2:
Poser may be the biggest draw here but they ain't the only Freestuff users.

There are other forums on Renderosity? Damn! Next you're going to tell me that isn't a TV in my living room, but a window and all those cars and trees are real!
If it's not in this forum, it doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned. It' s kind of like the "don't ask - don't tell policy", except you've told, so now I'm all messed up!

In the wider context of "reality", everything else exists as an adjunct to this forum. You have to define your experience in terms of how it relates to the real world, ie, the Poser Forum.
So, nothing has really changed. Think of everything else as big, moving renders and you'll be ok.

No mate, I can do that kinda thing in my sleep. As for the weather, I went out earlier. Nice but cold. In any case, I'll make up for it later. Gonna go and get a skinful tonight.

I'm somewhat a miss over what the confusion is? When you're browsing through the free stuff, and see something you like, click on the Details button. The bottom line of the Details page lists the "License" for that Freebie; be it Commercial, or Non-Commercial. If it's Commercial, then go ahead, Render and Sell! If it is Non-Commercial; then forget about e-mailing the creator, or looking through the ReadMe.
