The best I can recommend is open them in Blender and save them out as an .obj or .3ds both which Bryce will handle nicely.. ...

Attached Link: OBJ Export for SolidWorks
I remember seeing something like this on the Modo forum - it's an .OBJ exporter plug for Solidworks. I have no idea if it'll work or how well. Looks like a free 10-day fully functional trail. Bryce should read the .OBJ it exports.vernonglen posted Tue, 19 February 2008 at 5:02 AM
What is "Blender" where can I get it and will it work on a Mac?
thanks a bunch.

Blender is an OpenSource 3D modeling and animation software with a bit of a screwy UI...once you figure that part out it's an awesome app. In your case you just have to read the WIKI link I posted and go to the site linked here and dl the Mac O/S ver. scroll down the page...good luck eith this but the OBJ export plugin[dan's post] really looks more suited to your needs if you have SolidWorks already IMHO.. ...

I use Solidworks all the time and often import Solidwork models into Bryce. My coffee cups and stratocaster guitar, both can be found in threads in this forum from 2006 and/or 2007.
Solidworks can save in many formats, including VRML. Bryce can import VRML. The model will import pretty good, but will import as one object. If you want to have multiple objects in one model, then I suggest use either STEP format, or IGES. Use another application, such as Rhino, or other CAD package, to import then export into some other format Bryce likes.
Caution, Solidworks can do extremely complex objects many file formats don't like. It may take more effort than simply exporting into OBJ. Thus, I found STEP to be rather good, but slow, and a bit large. IGES is usually my second choice. Going from Solidworks to Rhino to Bryce, I found I would have to tinker with the model in Rhino to group objects, else they might import into Bryce exploded, even as OBJ.

@ Bobbystahr: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Render_a_SolidWorks_Model_in_Blender This is pretty good info! Thanks!

The model was made in Solidworks and exported to Bryce. However, the model had exploded and there were bits all over Bryce.

Near as I can tell, vernonglen appears not to have Solidworks but just has a save file he wants to load into Bryce.

Hi,
STEP works fine. I decided to use Carrara Pro since this is an industrial object that I am dealing with. It comes in as a grouped set of objects that are easy to deal with.
Thanks for all the help.
