Subject: can i render poser7 scenes in poser6?

the reason i am asking is that content paradise has poser6 for $2.29 for passport members.

i do a lot of batch renders and want to do them on my extra machines. the scenes are very basic with a single character or prop and simple lighting without any fancy rendering options.

are there problems with the content or poserpython scripts?

also, can i have both poser6 and poser7 on the same computer?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Scenes will be no problem.  Some of the Python could be a problem,
because the underlying Python version is different between 6 and 7,
and also because 7 includes quite a few new functions ... especially
in the area of helping batch renders.

And yes, both will run on the same machine nicely.  (I don't know if
the EULA permits this, though!)

I migth be wrong but I think the only new feature with lighting is the possibility to use HDRImaps as IBL-lights, the renderer has some new features as irradiance caching and texture filtering, and there are some changes in the material room. But poser7 scenes can be loaded in Poser6, Poser6 will complain, but it will load. I can't verify this anymore because I don't have Poser6 on my new computer, but on the old one I had Poser 6 and Poser7 installed without any problems. I know there are some problems with pythonscripts like wardrobewizard, because poser7 uses a newer version of python and has some new functions, so poser7 scripts cannot always be used in poser6, and it's the same the other way around.

Bopper.

thanks for the input, ockham and bopperthijs.

i have options to get around the potential poserpython problems and what i am doing is simple.

the problem is not the $2.29 but the $49.95 to get a passport membership. however, they said that i can but multiple copies.

i have multiple computers and methods for them to talk to each other. i should be able to do some serious damage. i grew up in the country and have wanted a render farm ever since i first heard about it.

But isn't a render farm the destination for livestock from an
ordinary farm, when they can't stand up any more?  :)
