I created the pic using the Hair Room (just to create an example - I couldn't find a similar reference pic using Google), but I can't use it for the pics I want to create 'cos it's just too memory-hungry, takes a long time to render and anyway I want to render in Vue5I...
Any help much appreciated:-)
(Yes, I know all the textures are cr*p - if I added any, my Poser would grind to a halt...)
Cheers,
Diolma

The nearest I can think of is the Morphing Flat Top at DAZ. It's shorter at the sides than the one in your pic but it's short and spiky on top.
You could always try using Displacement if all else fails.

There´s a free male shortcut (no.17) at studio maya. Perhaps it will do with an new texture and some tweaking.EnglishBob posted Fri, 07 March 2008 at 10:28 AM

The no.17 gives some kind of error in Japanese when I try to D/L it.

Looks like bad news. The source of that hair I used was a male hair called short style, or something like that; its DAZ number is ps_ac071, but it doesn't seem to be sold any more. Or I can't find it, one of the two. :) I've a feeling it may have been part of a pack, since I have two copies of the installer with slightly different names.

@flibbits - Ahhh - so I'm not going mad! I got the same thing (except I don't have Japanese enabled for my fonts, so I got babble-de-gook). In fact I got the same for anything after #5, which (probably not by co-incidence) is the last link that refers to the Archive..
@EnglishBob - that's almost exactly what I'm looking for:-) Now I've seen it, I can almost work out how to create my own if I can just sort out the UV mapping and the texture....
And that thought caused me to ponder: I wonder if I can use careful renders of the dynamic hair as a basis for creating the textures? Hmmm... food for thought..
Cheers,
Diolma

I think it was part of the free bonus packs that Daz was giving out for joining the PC club.

You found some sense to it, none available after #5. It seemed to me that whichever hairs I really wanted and clicked on weren't available, and the ones I didn't want were available. Isn't that always the way?
