lol I can wait because for them to charge $499 for the same ole tired interface is insane. Won't be picking this one up unless it gets up and makes coffee for me...and I just don't see that happening.  8^)

ratscloset ( ) posted Wed, 12 March 2008 at 10:13 PM

There are two levels mentioned. The Full (with all the Plug Ins) and the base version. The Full Version is the one mentioned at $499.00 The cost of the Base Version has not been announced.

http://graphics.smithmicro.com/article/articleview/2308

There is a PDF that compares the two.

Does it?  I don't like coffee...........but depending upon the type of coffeemaker that you're referring to -- some of them cost considerably more than Poser Pro.

I paid $400 for my expresso machine...makes great coffee.  The main reason I wanted the poser pro was for the output to Maya, which is not listed in the base version. Won't be getting this one. The Daz exporter is working fine for what I need.  The base would have to be under $50 for me to even consider it.

That's less then the cost of 1 tank of gas now...

Since everything is skyroceting in price because of the increase in fuel costs, I'm startijng to re evaluate my personal value system.

Milk's gone up 30% in the last year, and eggs have gone up 140%!

We don;t see a "value" increase in software, because we don't see a tangible produced real world "product", but the company that produces it, and the people employed do se real world cost increases, yet we don't mentally "value" them higher like other items.

I gotta value poser at least as much as milk, eggs, or gas. Those guys gotta eat as well.

I agree prices are going up for everything. Software is no different. I think we have been getting spoiled a bit with the pricing for many of the software these days and for so long a time. Highend apps have been dropping thier prices and lower end apps have been adding more highend features for low cost. All a good thing but how long can it last.

I only need the base. The full package doesn't support Modo and that's my high end app. I don't need any of those other plugins. I'm guessing there will be an upgrade pricing for P7 owners. My guess would be around $150 upgrade, for the base, but as I said that's just a guess. If you use poser as much as I do and want the few extra advantages, it's worth that, for me anyways.

There is the new extra content/figures also. Don't know enough about it but what you have just spent on the V4/A4 figure to just get her going. Any new figure for that matter.

No price is the one thing that I was not going to worry about until it is fact and then I'll probably hmmm for a few minuts and hit checkout.

Just wish there was better communication from SM themselves.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2008 at 3:05 PM

I know they like to bundle in content as a "carrot" t increase aparant value, but I'd MUCH rather see a coupon for CP, to purchase what I want. Kind of like what Eon did with Vue.

Course I'm the opposite with Vue.. I wish they'd have included more sjys, eco systems and plants, instead of premade scenes.

I would recommend that beta testers never reveal themselves, for various reasons.
if smith-micro still think they can sell the software for $449, maybe it's a result of them
having to inhale those gilroy garlic fumes all day.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2008 at 5:34 PM

I was thinking of the new low rez and med rez figures would be handy, hoping they actually bend right and not like the poor eF figures of now or else thats a bust and I would agree with you on the coupon. By sounds of your statment, they might not be worth anything. The base and P7 give just about the same a the full pro minus the extra render nodes and highend support.

I would have prefered the same content in my Vue6I as you instead of those pre made scenes. but the coupons helped there. Which reminds me, I have some money in my account there. Need to see what I can buy that I can't or don't feel like modeling mysef. LOL.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2008 at 5:42 PM

I had a HELL of a time finding anything in cornucopia that I really wanted, and could use my coupon on. I think it took me almost 9 months to use it!

I liked the SA robo cat that came with P7, but hardly looked at any of the other content. There might hav ebeen a few godies there I might have liked, but I already have plenty of things I love and want to use.

I suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but still....

21st is Content Paradises 3rd Birthday party and they're giving away a gift bag to all registered members perhaps they're going to put Poser Pro in it.

No I'm only joking. Havn't you noticed they've changed the date in the announcement to read "soon" now. so don't hold your breath awaiting

Tashar59 ( ) posted Wed, 19 March 2008 at 1:47 PM

Hope that's not a Daz SOON. Or it will be next year before we see it, if we are lucky.

Don't 'cha know it?  The wild onions are springing up (no pun intended).  Time to start mowing the grass soon.

As we all are aware, several of our number are currently in the process of beta-testing Poser Pro for the rest of us.  Better them now, rather than us after we've paid for it.

Of course, we'll also know who to blame when it doesn't work right.  😉  (Joking, guys -- your work beta-testing is appreciated.  Testing isn't always easy work.).

Yes I noticed that the date on their FAQ page was changed from winter to "soon," after someone, not SM, called our attention to it in another forum. I just don't think that is adequate correction to the advertised release date. I sure hope it isn’t a DAZ "soon," but I have no information from SM to assume otherwise.

Of course, we all know the product is not going to be released as advertised in winter. So, no, I won’t hold my breath. Naturally I would prefer for the product to be thoroughly tested and bug free (okay that last part was hard to type with a straight face). I just think it is better to be honest about it. And, we are still waiting for that.

Maybe your right. Just our luck.

Hey! Wait a momment! According to PP the last day of winter would have been March 15, 2008.

SM missed the winter deadline, TWICE!

I blame the global warming which has caused the record-breaking cold / snowbound Winter that we've experienced this year.  The excessively cold weather and tons of snow (all caused by global warming, of course) has fooled SM into thinking that it's still Winter.

Naturally, I'll expect my copy of Poser Pro to be free as compensation for the delay.  It's only reasonable.  I mean com'on -- fair is fair.

I'd love to learn a little about the changes to Firefly. Right now, my Q6600 is chugging away at a render using over 4,000,000 KB of RAM in the external renderer (almost, almost OOM), using only a quarter of the available CPU powerl
The amount of memory used is staggering for the simplicity of the scene. One terrain object, one sky dome, five human figures (only three of them high resolution), two trees, some rocks and a campfire. I suspect it's the strand based hair that is eating this much RAM, but still, that amount is fairly ridiculous.

Will Firefly be fully 64 bit? Will it be smarter / faster / more stable? Will I finally be able to render an outdoor scene with a moderate abundance of vegetation without crashing the render engine?

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
