Hi folks; does anyone know how to produce an alpha mask render on it's own, rather than have to wait for the main render to complete? I used an alpha mask here:

...but what a pain, to have to produce a full-blown render to get the alpha mask....I turned off the atmosphere, shaows etc to spped it up, but a simple alpha mask (as Bryce can do) would be a real plus!

Depends on your Vue version. Infinite & xStream can render alpha masks while rendering the main picture.

When I want this I just render in preview mode. It's normally a few seconds and it's good enough (the lack of AA in preview mode can bring some problems though, but for most purposes you can fix it in PS with some blur).

Thanks for this guys - the preview mode seems to be the way to do it. Esprit does the main render, alpha and Z masks all at once too.

I have infinite, but I note alpha renders are iffy at times, so I usually resort to rendering it out, it's VERY fast and easy by the way.
Set chosen object to be Flat Black, rest Flat white, since those mats don't have highlights etc, should take only a minute or two to render, regardless of size :)
