Subject: Export Blender particle objects to Poser

Hi. I've made this lovely patch of grass using particles in Blender using this tutorial. I have many scenes that require grass, so I was quite excited to have been able to create this.

After I'd assigned the material to the mesh object (the base of the grass particles) and assigned a texture to the grass, I exported to Wavefront Obj. Bringing it up in Poser, I can see the red furry outline of the particles when I move the mouse over the Preview window in the Pose room:

but for some reason it doesn't seem to want to render. Pretty sure I did something wrong in the export process... or maybe my material room settings are wrong?

Thanks so much...

...do you think I should be posting this to the Poser forums, maybe? I hate cross-posting, but now that I've kinda reviewed the problem, it seems that Blender exported my particles just fine - otherwise I wouldn't be able to see them in the preview, would I? - but it won't render.Anyone have any idea up which tree I should be barking?

Cheers,
Robyn

Looks like what you have is lines in the OBJ.
While Poser will import them, and you can see them in the preview, they won't show up in renders (they have no faces).
With a certain amount of work you could turn them into hair objects, but I doubt it would be worth bothering (quicker to mess about with Poser's hair directly to see if you can get the effect your looking for).

That's what I was afraid of...
Buggah.

Thanks for that, nRuddock... guess it's back to the drawing board, hey?

what you might try  is asign a polygon form to the hair in blender , i think it will then export that too.

I did export it - the base from which the particles emitted, you mean? I made it visible by selecting mesh in the Particles dialog, so it is visible, but in Poser it just shows up as a green mass, no detail.

Thanks, tho....

other wise try the make dupliverts real option, under menu object/ clear/apply/ make dupliverts real (Ctrl/shift/a) this will convert theparticles in a renderable object.

i tested it in the old version doesnt work :( , get the one of the new betas and there under hair you can asign an object to the hair strings , then do the make real as i said in my last post.

Thanks for that - belatedly - ysvry... I'll reopen that project and have a go... I now have Blender 2.46, which includes that capability, I believe.
