I just got Poser 6 recently and have been having fun creating new faces for James Casual (the default).  Thing is, I only just realized that you can't delete his clothing (or change it, I'm assuming) so I'm afraid I won't be able to use these new heads for anything else.  What I'm hoping is that there is some way to delete or change James' clothes, or that the head morphs I've created can be placed on another character.

Any suggestions?

Yeah it sucks that those figures come with glued on clothing. However you can use character addon packages to change his shape and skin texture.  You can still make your own faces, just use the textures from the packages.

I appreciate your help but I'm still confused....I'm so new to this that the simplest of terminology is like greek to me.  Does this mean that I'll still be able to use these new faces I've created?  What are character add ons exactly.  I mean, will I be able to use them to cover up clothing?

The thing is I want to create whole new characters, and if possible learn how to create my own clothing for them.  And these faces are very important to me.  But I'm starting to think that I won't be able to use them because of the limitations to James Casual.

Do you know if there's a way to take a face morph (not sure if that's the right rerm) and place it on another figure?  That would be the easiest way to solve this problem for me.

Thanks again for trying to help me, especially since I'm so new and unable to really articulate what it is I'm looking for.

You could delete James casual and load the other james from the Figures folder and your morphs will work. You can then go to the props folder and use the James clothes that are conforming clothes.

A good tip would be to open P6 and then delete james casual. Delete the lights and add one white light and arrange your window to the size and lay out you like. then click on one of the UI dots to save that.

Go to Edit > General Preferences > Misc and uncheck Use external binary morph targets, uncheck Check for updates and check Use file compression which will save your files at a smaller size. Don't check it if you want to hack the files but they will be much larger in size.

Interface select Launch to previous state. > Document  click on the Set Preferred State button. Then select Launch to preferred state and change the Max cached renders to 1. There really is no need to save so many renders in poser. better to save out as a tiff to a folder somewhere else to use in what ever paint program you have that uses alfa channels. Hit OK.

Your P6 will open and run a bit faster for you and then you have a blank basic scene to start with.

Attached Link: Dr Geeps university.

If you want to save your new faces goto File > Export > Wavefront OBJ. it will have single frame selected > click OK. In the new list, Uncheck UNIVERSE. then check Head > click OK. Give the face a name and select what folder you want to save the morph in > click Save. Last > Uncheck everything and Check As Morph Target. hit OK.

To load the morph. Select the figures head and select the Properties tab click on Load Morph Target. Geometry file will say None. click on the button beside that at the top and browse to your saved face morph and open it. Hit Ok again and the new morph should be in the head dials.

You should read Dr Geeps poser tutorials. They are among the best for newbies and are free.

Just a small word of clarification: "delete James casual" here means "delete James Casual from the scene", NOT from the library...

Deleting James C from the library would delete him for ever. Deleting him from the scene only affects that scene.

Sorry if this is over-pedantic, but you never know who's reading the thread and could get the wrong idea...

Good Point.

Tashar59....

So I tried this twice, with two different head morphs....

With the first one it said there was the wrong number of vertices, and with the second nothing happened....

Not sure if I did something wrong, but so far it's not working.....

Tashar59 posted Wed, 02 April 2008 at 5:30 PM

Wrong verts means you used a figure that does not have the same poly count. did you change figures? Did you load the high rez James instead of the other?

If nothing happens, it may be fine. Did you select the head and look in the dials to see if there is the morph dial there and did you dial that to 1.000.

To make sure the morph is working, you could do export steps and then delete the figure from the scene and load a the same figure back in and load the morph to it. Then there should not be a wrong vert error and the new morph should work when dialed.

Geeps tutorials have images with them and might be easier to understand than my just telling. I myself understand things better when I see it/ tear it apart and put back together than just reading.

I'm still trying to figure it out but I will say this.....I know I used James Casual (the default) because until earlier today I didn't even know where the other figures were.....it's odd, now it's not saying anything....I'm so confused....

AHA!!!!!!!!  It works!  I just didn't know about the morph dial you mentioned in the last email!  Thank you so much!!!!!!

Glad tohear you got it working. Pretty simple stuff once you learn it.
