I am just trying to get some input on what you think a person should get as the first Plug-In???

I haven't bought any yet, but the ENHANCE:C plugins by Digital Carvers Guild look mighty fine, that and ANYTHING GOOS.  Inagoni's Velouté 2 also, looks good.

A little plug-in that turns out to be very handy is Inagoni's "SWAP". It will swap out any object in your scene and replace it with another. It can be a scenesaver.
A frequent use I put it to is for swapping out a light for a camera. This way you can see exactly where that light is pointing. Then you swap it back to a light again.
