Subject: hair prop moves off head during pose

Hi -   I am trying to create a scene in VUE that requires a woman seated. Victoria 4 with the Pensive 02 pose is perfect.   The dynamic hair prop I created falls off when the figure is posed even tho the hair is parented to V4 head.

Here is what I have done to get into this mess: I created a skullcap prop and subdivided it in Shade 8; grew hair on the skull cap prop in the hair room and saved the skullcap and hair as a poser scene.  I then opened a new poser scene, brought in V4, added clothes and imported the scene containing the skullcap prop and hair. I tried parenting the hair to the skullcap and then the skullcap to V4 head but the hair kept separating from the skullcap or else the skull cap would turn invisible. I tried various parenting combos (with V4 in the Zero pose and in the pensive pose) but eventually gave up and deleted the skullcap and parented the hair directly to the V4 head inheriting bends from parent.

In order to prevent the long hairs from sticking into the V4 body, I calculated dynamics going from the zero pose to the pensive pose in 30 frames with collision detection on. This took about 8 hours to calculate and when it was finished the hair just fell right thru the head to end up around her upper chest.

Is the above workflow reasonable or is there a better way? Why do parented items sometimes behave in unexpected ways?   I'm sure there is a trick to this - I just haven't figured it out yet.

Is this strictly happening in Vue?  Might ask in the Vue forum also.

I don't think anyone has figured this one out yet.  Vue predictably behaves unexpectadly often... if that makes sense.  Sorry if you said this but did you save the character first in poser and then just import the scene?  It has been a while since I braved opening vue but I seem to remember doing it that way and getting it to work.

I have trouble with parented things in Carrara too.  It could be that it needs to conform, might try just making it conforming.  These are just ideas, wish I could be more helpful.

I have the same problem in Poser.  Fortunately in poser the hair prop remains oriented in the right way so it merely has to be lowered back onto the head.

Sorry, I wasn't clear  - Vue has nothing to do with the problem.  I should never have mentioned Vue in the first sentence - I re-read it and I can see that it is strongly misleading.

So this is happening in Poser: V4 in zero pose, then parent hair to head - pose figue - hair falls off head.

Thanks, JV Gallagher

If I understand your problem, you only need to "lock" the hair object while in place. Parenting alone doesn't do it.

I use a slightly different workflow to keep this from happening.  I simply pose my figure first and THEN add the hair prop.  Works like a charm.

This sounds like another manifestation of a bug which has been discussed in many previous threads.  V4 will lose parenting of hair and/or jaw parts if you have PointAt invoked for the eyes.  Locking the actor doesn't solve it.  You may notice that if you go to the frame you want and change the camera (e.g., go from Main Camera to Face Camera) then rotate that camera, the hair or jaw will snap back into place; but if you then go to another frame the parented parts are at that new frame's position.  Try turning off PointAt if you have it invoked for the eyes and see if the issue disappears.
