A few nights ago I started a list of add-ons for poser I would like to see that no one has made. I am not talking about clothing but utilities or Python scripts. Here is what I have came up with so far:

  1. glove creation system
  2. skin creator/converter - UTC 2 has been delayed for almost 2 years
  3. A good hair designer!
  4. Hat Designer
  5. something to make walk designer files

Please add on to the list.

'Make Art' button.
Sorry, I had to say it, somebody would have eventually.

The main problem is that the render engine sucks..if you want photorealistic renders you take poser to Carrara, Shade, Vue, 3dsmax, Cinema 4D or Maya.

Since Smith also owns Shade it would been much better to put in a render engine rather than poserfusion.

To stay on topic,

I would like to see a way to morph a figure, maybe even displace it a little, and render a normal map of it.

Properly incorporated GI.

The only issue is that if many of  peoples ideas were implemented, how much would Poser cost?

Smith Micro does not own Shade.  E frontier Japan owns Shade.

Shade was not part of what Smith Micro purchased.

I think this thread is not about built-in Poser features, but separate addons, like (for example) Wardrobe Wizard, Injection Magic, PoserPhysics or the Unimesh Realims kits. Third-party addons that can be purchased/downloaded separately.

Which of those featuers should be built right into Poser? In my opinion, only a few. What is REALLY needed in Poser is a complete API to all underlying functionality, plus complete wxPython integration. Then third-party developers can create addons that integrate well with Poser.
Even better, if the Poser development team would expose Poser functionality through an externally callable API, it would be possible to integrate Poser into an automated pipeline. If SM is going for "pro", this is a requirement. Anything that cannot be scripted into an automated workflow is not a professional application.
As of this moment, there's a fairly convoluted workaround: PRPC. It's possible to control Poser from an outside application/script using remote procedure calls. Problem is that running multiple scripts parallel within Poser is somewhat flaky, so PRPC-called script cannot do everything that scripts called from within Poser can do.

I've been badgering Curious Labs and e-frontier for this kind of functionality since Poser 5 came out. Unfortunately, to do it right, Poser needs to be rewritten from the ground up, and that could be troublesome (see Newtek/Lightwave).
On the other hand, Poser is built on a codebase that is definitely obsolete. One day, and I think it's not that far off, it will HAVE to be rewritten.
Maybe the full 64 bit version (it might take a couple of years, but 32 bit apps ARE going the way of the MSDOS 16 bits apps) would be the best one for the rewrite.

With every new version of Poser, some people predict doom and gloom and the end of Poser, most of those predictions based on marketing strategies they don't like.
I don't care much for marketing strategy - I look at what the product can do for me. But if the owners of Poser do not plan for a major overhaul and bring Poser to the world of 64 bit computing within the next 5 or 6 years, Poser IS doomed. There won't be an OS that'll run it.

Miss Nancy posted Mon, 05 May 2008 at 5:06 PM

I would hazard a guess that, if SM adds some of the above to the next version of poser,
the upgrade price for poserpro owners will be $99 U.S., $199 for poser7/6/5 owners, and
$449 for others.  some of the other features above may be available from 3rd-party
vendors as utils/scripts, for approx. $200 in all.  if FFRender is still too slow to do the GI
calculations, then they can't make it easy to access until they come up with a quicker
algorithm IMVHO.

@svdl:  As you say, complete API.
That's the single key to everything else.

Not that it's ever going to happen.

Things I've wanted to see for some time:

  1. Eye camera - see from the character's POV
  2. Reflection previews - all that time spent setting up a mirrored surface only to find that the angles are wrong is frustrating!
  3. Posing window for props that shows them in a zeroed state, where the user doesn't get completely thrown off by their orientation relative to the scene and can use the X-Y-Z dials without having to learn extradimensional physics ;) (esp. good for positioning objects into hands after the figure has been posed)
  4. "Drop to floor" script that takes into account shoes conformed to the figure
  5. Pose modifier that alters feet dials of a pose based upon conformed shoes

pakled posted Mon, 05 May 2008 at 9:37 PM

a simple database function (very simple) that would allow you to

  1. Pick up from where you left off looking the last time (and not shoved back to the top)
  2. Alphabetize everything in the list (not an A-Z, then another set of A-Z)
  3. Categorize by character (all the V3 goes one place, all the V4 in another, etc)
  4. Search on author, character, etc.

I don't need reports...;) I just want something like P3do built into Poser (thanks, Yarp...best freebie I have for Poser...'ceptin' Wings 3d, but I'm prejudiced...;)

Svdl said it!  There is absolutely no access to so many things, using PoserPython.  Terribly frustrating.

I'd like to see a .cr2 editor which will run within Poser.  And anything at all which could improve the joint handling would be a miracle.  I no longer make renders, largely because every time I start posing a figure I become disgusted with the joints and spend the whole time using the joint editor and magnets to try to fix things.  But any plugin involving joints runs up against the limitations of PoserPython, even before the specific programming problems of such a tool can be considered....

I'd also like a hat with a whistle, but that's OT....

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Two user emulators.

One for Poser and one for any kind of forum.

A UTC that converts to other figures & not just Daz specific ones. Something that truly deserves the name Universal.

" ....add-ons for poser"
I suggested a while ago that a modular type of system (like C4D) could keep costs down and give people what they want.
For example, if you never want to use the hair room (module) it should be an add-on to buy if you want, or don't.
That is, a base Poser program where you only buy the modules that you want to use,  instead of paying for "rooms" you never go into.
This of course, would require a complete code rewrite. Heaven forbid.

This is what I was afraid of happening, people add their Poser integrated add-ons. I was looking for a list that could be used outside of Poser or as a Python to get an idea of what people wanted for use with Poser.

Quote - - Hair shader sytem, akin to face_off's Realism kits or bagginsbill's VSS. Both for strand based hair and transmapped hair.

Just a couple of things off the top of my mind.

Some of these can be done with what is already in Poser 7, specially the materials if done right. I would check out BVH Helper over at PhilC's.

I vote for a deccent Hair Shader system! Getting realistic shades on dynamic hair is a pain in the butt!

An utility that injects partial body morphs and fullbody morphs into clothes in such a way that the user can choose which parts of the cloth has to be rigid and solid and which parts should be smooth, loose and fluid.
I know there is  morphmagic and Tailor and I know Wardrobewizard 2 and Crossdresser 3 can transfer and inject full body morphs,  and there are of course the magnet sets.
I have used everything, but at the moment the only program that comes close to what I want is Crossdresser, but that is IMO still to buggy to make a sound and solid product.
The only way at the moment to the morphs just like you want is by hand in a modeller, but everyone who has read Conniekat8 interesting and informative story about the progress of her new GND-outfit, knows how many hours that takes to do.
Perhaps I'm looking for the holy grail of poserdom, but maybe there's some genius who has an illuminous idea how to achieve it.
In the meantime I will sent an email to Evil innocence with some gentle words of encouragement to point him out what crossdresser does wrong with the morphs.

Regards,

Bopper

The ability for Poser to save textures and geometries etc with the saved library item and/or PZ3 ala Bryce, so you don't have to worry if everything is in the right place. Hallelujah! Nudging things would be good too.
