I am looking to model a hat and I am stuck. The kind of hat I am looking to model is a bowler. Here is an example:
I also want to try to make it morph in to something like this:
Where I am stuck is the basic shape around the head.

I'd probably start with a basic circular bowl(er) shape; just the head part, because it will be easier to fit it to the head and extrude the brim afterwards, I think. Even half a sphere would give you a good starting point for pulling and pushing; or better, a quarter sphere. Once you have it shaped to one half of the head, mirror and join. For the trilby morphs you may want to cut your mesh so that the morphs will form easily without bumpy edges.

For the morphs was thinking of possible using the old trick of Geometry switching.

what I would do is import the figure head into my modeller . Create a plane and position it to be the bottom edge of the hat .
Boolean intersect, so you get a shape of the plane that was inside the head.
Size the plane a tiny bit bigger.
Then select the edge of the plane , and start extending it out for the rim of the hat.
select the plane and bevel it up to be the body of the hat .
Some point dragging to shape the hat and your done .
I thought there were some similar hats in freestuff already .

Geometry switching only works properly on figures, and I can't see any benefit in making a conforming hat (it will be harder to fit to other figures, for example). Just make sure you have polygons in the right places and it will morph just fine. As you can see from Mark's post, there's as many different ways of doing this as there are modellers. :)

There are a few but none for the figure I am trying to create it for, CP's Big Foot, Near Me and BJD. I am also working on an outfit (dress) for CP's Bigfoot for a buddy of mine who lives in the Northwest who claims to have seen Bigfoot. It is an on going joke between him and I.

I have give up on this, think I will look for an existing one. My modeling skills maybe in time I will be able to make one.
