So I downloaded Arboro, and I love it. But when it comes time to export, I need POV. I can't figure out how to get POV to work with the exports! :c( Anyone know where I can find some help? I need better trees that don't crash my computer like the tree lab does when the trees finally start looking realistic.

I was just about to post this link up anyway.
"Arbaro - tree generation" (it does bushes also)
Now, with anything free, there are sometimes a catch...the program works in Java...so while it will work with any OS that uses Java, you will need to also download the latest Java packaga from SUN.
But, I downloaded Arbaro, unzipped it, and double-clicked the file called "arbaro_gui.jar", and away it went! (Like I said, you WILL need the Java download).
It exports dxf, obj, and others.

Here's another thread from a while back that discusses using Arbaro, and POV-Tree. You might find it helpful. I did a general forum search, back to, and including 2005 and there are a lot of threads in various forums concerning these two apps. BTW, don't forget DRYAD.mboncher posted Fri, 16 May 2008 at 2:07 PM
:c( I didn't understand the linked thread at all because essentially none of the screens matched mine except for the one screen that doesn't work proper. :c(
Do I need POVtree to make Arburo output to .obj format? I can get Arbaro to work, and generate a tree in pov format... which then can't be converted to any other format by any of my 3 converter programs.

I've been trying to set it up, but am getting just bounced into a forced "restart/cancel" every time I hit export on any format.
For the test I set up my "Export to file" for:
C:...POV-Ray v3.6bindefault.obj
My "Output Path" is:
C:...POV-Ray v3.6binpvengine.exe
My POVRay executable is set to:
C:...POV-Ray v3.6binpvengine.exe
And of course I chose export format of ".obj"
I can't get POVRay to render anything on it's own either because I don't understand the controls. I require GUI and WYSIWYG, not programming language. :c(
I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

If you don't have the same basic controls then you probably need to download Sun java instead of the version microsoft pushes.

Depending on what it exports as there is a free aopp I'm big on called PoseRay, essentially for getting Poser into POV I figger but I use it in TG2 to convert justabout any .3ds ,obj .lwo into a readable by TG2 .obj. I have opend POV includes I think they were...veg of some sort but it was way to poly heavy for what I wanted but it will open some POV formats. Give er a try..it's free and handy...does way more than convert.. ...

Ah! ...found it!
I knew I had done something about installing this software a while ago. The most important things you need to remember to make this work are:
You need a copy of Sun Java. There is a microsoft visual J that is corrupted java. It was doctored so that only users of internet explorer could access microsoft update pages. If you used netscape the microsoft pages had white links on white pages. Arbaro will sort of open on visual J but you will miss certain functions and won't create certain tasks.
You need a Zip program that preserves directory structure and need it turned on. If you unzip arbaro into a single folder the program won't be able to find the sub folders with the exporters.
You do not need POV ray unless you want to render in it. I still don't have it and my copy of arbaro works just fine.
I did a long drawn out thread about installing and creating shortcuts for hdri shop and arbaro.
It' tells you how to create desktop, start menu folders, use custom tree icons for arbaro, etc. It's called " Where the heck are my..."

Thanks electroglyph. At last I can use arbaro and it´s great

Okay, I have the proper version of Java, and I unzipped it with winzip and the installer preserved the file structure... but it still won't export. I click the button and a split second later it claims it's 100% done, no file is made where I asked for it, and I can't "restart" the export either. I must have a defective download or something. Also, none of the changes to Output path or I do to the "Setup" save. Lastly, I only get wire view for the preview. I never see the full tree. Something's gotta be majorly wrong.
And this is just a head slapper too, because it's really messing up my artistic Chi... I can't get DAZ Dystopia's .lwo objects to open in bryce 5 either.
Just a ball of frustration right now wanting to throw things. ):c(

HAH! The problem was that I was exporting with POV 3.6 which for some reason isn't working for me. So I backtracked and used POV 3.5 and bingo. We're starting to work. I'll be experimenting more... but I still can't open .lwo objects dammit. :c(
