Greets all.Since SP1 came out vista 64 is more affordable to me now so i i decieded to go for it,these are my specs cropped straight from the horses mouth. What changes can you reccomend i make before upgrading ? I also upgraded this week with a Wacom Bamboo, a Logitech G11 keyboard and a nice Razer Copperhead mouse and another 2G DDR2.Now that the haordware is mostly out of the way,I am going to work on internal stuff, any suggestions?

Well for me I'd say stick 8Gig RAM in there, you won't regret it!! Why only 4 when you have a 64 bit system??

My other thing would be to get 2 HD's in Raid1 array so that if one gets fried the other takes over and gives you time to get it fixed without losing anything!!
I'll take it you're familiar with Raid1 as you seem to know your way around stuff!

I didn't see a Mobo listed, so I'd recommend an Asus P5k-E!!

Well, as of right now i do not have 64 bit yet..this is my current setup you see.I didnt get more RAM yet as i am on a 32bit system and 4G is more than enough and as you can see in the screen Vista sure seems to have it allocated in a very odd fashion:P BNot to sure why that is exactly either. I have an Intel mainboard, right now but not sure which flavor.

Ah!! Sorry I thought that was your new one!! [LOL].

Vista can be a memory hog that's for sure. It has a weird way of dealing with available RAM too, the more you have, the more it'll take, weird!!

8 gig rules
vista is slow to start up, but then fast later as it can cache a lot in RAM, more ram = better!

just back EVERYTHING up if you can, Murphy's Law... ;)

Vista's ram works the way it should, caching everything it can so that you can quickly load apps etc.
If you then need access to the memory, for instance to run Vue or play a game it releases that cached memory back, it is quick and effecient at doing this and something I very much like about Vista.

Also and to my cost make sure your motherboard can actually support 8GB or more of ram, some say they do but actually don't, also some may support more but are very funny regarding the type of memory in the machine, i.e. they want the same brand, speed etc.

Yeah, i know all about superfetch and such and such in Vista I am abig fan from day one,and although i dont see a big difference in SP1 i am quite happy with it..it is running fine.Vue is far more patient and my games have always rocked with DX10 so no complaints there, i just want more power/speed that i think only 64bit is gonna give me.
