Can anyone tell me, if you can convert brushes created in CS3 so that they can be used in Photoshop 7? Appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks.Quest posted Fri, 30 May 2008 at 12:08 AM
Nice site Judy! Yes but you need both PS CS3 and PS 7. Bring up the brush in question in CS3 and create a new file. To this add a transparent layer. On that layer paint one dab of the brush and save this as PSD file. Open this file in PS 7 and “Ctrl + click” the brush layer to select the brush outline. Go “Edit”---->Define Brush and there you have it ready to save and use when needed.

as Quest pointed out, you can convert CS3 brushes (or any other vers for that matter) BUT you need access to an eariler version of PS (ver7...) to open the PSD file.
There isn't a "built in" method to "save as eariler version" like in Illustrator because Photoshop views the native file format (.PSD) the same regardless of the version. the brush engine is quite different between PS vers7 and CS3, so you can't just copy the .abr files (you can from 7 to CS3 but not backwards...)
if you don't have access to a system with PS7 you're gonna' be stuck.

Thank you both so very much for responding so quickly.
I think I am stuck............but only for now. I am considering purchasing CS3 because so many brushes are available created by the program.
Thank you as well Quest for the nice compliment.
Appreciate the help!!
