I'm following a turtorial by David Brinnen. To be able to do it all i have to use terrain-mapps. I have dowloaded bryce and have no cd. Are the terrain-mapps not in the dowload version or have i missed an installation file?

If im not mistaken there are a bunch of resource files that have their own installers and such. Maybe you forgot to download and/or install those?

where did you download Bryce from? if it was DAZ then you may need to download the other files.

It might also help if we had a link to the tut and which version of Bryce you're using.
The content changed quite a bit between B5, B5.5 and B6.

ok. its actually a tutorial about placing an axtra light in front of the sun. A few of the things there seems not to work. like finding the exact possition of the sun so as to be able to place the extra light. I'll just have to try and install the resources again one by one.

Is this the tutorial of which you speak (the link above)? If so then this is the terrain map of which he speaks. As it says in the tut, it would be located in Disk 2 and it's name is Erosion2 and is in "tif" format and it measures 319x320 this uploaded image is a "jpg" conversion of that map and can be used in it's stead for the sake of that tutorial.dyret posted Fri, 06 June 2008 at 4:16 AM
thank you Quest. As I dowloaded bryce I don't have a disk. And as I'm not able to find the b****y sun(the point of the whole tutorial) I'll never be able to finish the tutorial. Oh well... I'll just try to do something else. Thank you all for answering anyway! And I'll save that jpg

After Bryce 4 I've only bought download versions. So!!!! I decided to do a quick search and although I have Bryce 6.1 installed here is the tif you are looking for.
C:Program FilesDAZBryce 6.1ContentTexturesLegacyTerrain MapsErosion2.TIF
and its 113KB.
If you didnt download and install the Bryce 5 presets, you can do so from here:

Hmmm, I don't know about anyone else, but I can't make this tutorial work at all. I was interested in the idea of adding to the sunlight in the right direction, but
a) all the settings for the terrains leave them hanging about in mid air,
b) the camera setting gives you a render that's almost black (the camera being way too close to the terrains) and
c) double clicking while holding down the alt key does put a yellow star in the scene to show the sun position, but all the settings are so far out of wack that you have to look above to find it, not just swing east or west.
(I'm assuming here that by "Alt Gr" he means the "Alt" key - since I only have an "alt" key, not an "Alt Gr" key, but I could be mistaken.
I thought originally it might be because I was following the tut in B6, so I tried again in B5.5 - same result.
If someone else has version 5 of Bryce, maybe this tut will only work for that, but it's darned hard work in B5.5 or 6

Fran, I will try it out shortly as soon as I finish my latest project... I have glanced it over and am sure that if I follow it exactly as written, maybe I'll figure out where the problem lies.

I'll post my handiwork tomorrow as I would like to work on it some more... (Add trees, etc.)

I will post a bigger picture in my gallery later today but just wanted to show Fran that it can be done in ver 6 or 5... You just have to pay close attention to the instructions and use your experience with Bryce...

Haha. I also tried it with the same result as fran. I probably missed only a small part of something important

I could have missed something, I'm without a printer at present so I have to continually switch from screen to screen, backwards and forwards like a demented yoyo - usually I print out a tut so I can follow it properly.
I'll have to try again some time, I'm without the internet for some days soon, not sure how many, might be just a week or two, might be some months - so I might have to try it again in a few months. sigh...
