Please what 3D CGI models of explosions are available?

Helgard has a free python script at VP, Phil C has a commerical one at his site, both allow you to explode a mesh in various ways.

Powerage has a range of exploding buildings.
Or you could try using Foresters water splahses and using them as "particles" of dirt.

All of these do miss one thing though - the dust cloud or the middle explosion bit - for that you need to postwork it.  I find Particle Illusion for that as shown in the image (given in the link above) is the best way.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

For the dust cloud and middle explosion, go get a loop of frames of an explosion and make an avi texture on some planes.  Works great.  You can either use a static plane, or get fancy with it and apply the animated tex to some particles for good effect.

Anthony and Helgard, check Detonation films.  Great stock fx clips already in avi format.  The mirror download is much faster.  (Also check out their tutorials sectioon.)

This explosion is from a television show I did a little while back.  Hope this helps if you want to make a Poserized explosion or something.

What is VP?

Helgard posted Sat, 14 June 2008 at 2:59 PM

VP is Vanishing Point, another website that sells models and stuff.

Muralist, I have all the clips from Detonation Films, and I also boaght loads of clips from Artbeats. The Artbeats clips are much higher quality, but they are not free. I will put up the video sometime when I finish it of the depth charge explosions animations I have made.

Anthony, I would second mrsparky's suggestion of looking at Wondertouch's Particleillusion, which can be used to generate any number of explosions. It takes a fair bit of work to remap some colours on their presets, but you can get 2D explosions which are every bit as good as the ones at Artbeats.
