Okay today's rant start with the letter  " B "

B stands for Beta testers requests.

I have in the past asked for people to beta test test for me. While most do a great job of pointing out what needs to be fixed there are some who do nothing then complain when the next item that needs beta testing they wonder why they are not selected.
Second is when other vendors request for beta testers in the forum and volunteer to beta test for them they never get back or have you fill out some stupid survey to beta test.  I don't normally bitch about this type of things but I am angry and pissed at a few and need to vent!

I add more words on my forum if you wish to read due to restrictions on the site for 4 letter words starting F and ending with ....

Well, all beta testers and vendors are not created equal :)

Some vendors have a specific itemized list of what they want their testers to look for. Others just leave it up to the tester to do their own thing.

And then there is the experience of the beta tester. A beta tester is only as good as the people they test for. If a tester doesn't know to do certain things or look for certain things and the vendor doesn't tell them, then the tester doesn't learn, the test is shoddy and the vendor is unhappy.

So IMHO it's well worth it for the vendor to talk with their testers initially and tell them right up front about what it is that they expect them to test for and look for.

IE:

what version of Poser are you testing in?
proper license
informative readme
proper file structure
absolute paths
missing files
version number errors
hard seams (not only at the usual visable places but places like between fingers too)
texture stretching
what about second skins? Do they bleed or smear at the edges?
holes in the mesh
props that don't follow the pose
intersections
other errors or anomolies when loading
any problems rendering?
does the item render settings need something special like turning off texture flitering or using Poser4 render instead of Firefly? Are those instructions listed in the readme?
is there anything about this package that you feel could be improved upon in order to make it more user friendly?

There is a great deal for a beta tester to look for and check. It's not just a matter of  whether the files load or not.  And a vendor shouldn't automatically assume that a tester knows what to test for. A vendor should expect a tester to look for all of the above and their  report should address all of the above and images of problems found should accompany the report.

You are missing my point. Maybe I should make myself clearer.

Issue 1
I had asked for testers for a product I was working on. I had several people lined up and decided to go with a user (not saying name out loud) due to past post in forums. I gave access to the files I needed testing for out of the 5 testers this user was the only one who never replied to my inquiries about the product testing! I found this person was trying to sell my product on a different site.

Issue 2
I was asked by a vendor to test something and all they sent was questions the vendor never got back to me either way. I have beta tested for several vendors and in the process of testing 3 things, Most of the vendors will let you know if they need your services or not.

These are the reasons why I am upset at the moment!

Well, I would be upset about issue #1.  But so far as the second, just let it go.  You haven't really lost anything but a few mintues of your time that it took to respond to the questions.  It's also entirely possible that they are still in the selection process.  I remember having responded to someone and got a reply back a few days later asking me some questions which I answered. But it was about a week before I actually heard whether I was accepted or not.

one other thing that must bug the hell outta folks who hafta deal with beta testers:
when testers are slow to respond or send back test results.  in my case, it seems
like every time I get some free time to test something and then volunteer, I suddenly
get deluged with non-internet work that's always life-or-death (according to the
folks for whom I do it), hence it takes donkey's years for me to get some free time
again.  like right now I have 5 minutes before the next thing.  anyway, my thanks to the
folks who need beta testers, for their forbearance and patience.
