I am planning to buy a new computer. They all have Vista installed. I'd rather stick with XP, but it's getting harder to find. Does Carrara 5 have any issues with Vista, and 64-bit processors?

I run C6 Pro on Vista Ultimate 32 Bit, but I am not sure about C5. You should know that if you buy a PC from some vendors with Vista, a lot of them have downgrade rights, meaning if you get Vista and it doesn't work out for you, you can get XP for free and downgrade to it. I normally never recommend using a name brand machine, custom builds are so much better, but if you are concerned about Vista, this may be an option you should speak with whomever you are planning on getting the new PC from about./

Oh yeh. Even though you have a 64 Bit processor, you will still be running it as a 32Bit unless you run the 64Bit version of Vista or XP. If you get Vista Ultimate in a retail box, it includes both versions of Vista. If you want to go Vista, I highly recommend the ultimate package and be super careful about what PC you get. A lot of them say vista ready, but can only run it in it's most basic stripped down mode. I am also not sure on how well C6 or C5 will work under a 64Bit OS. There is supposed to be a compatability mode in the 64Bit versions, but I have never used it. Another conosole. If you are running a 32Bit version of the OS, your system can only see a maximum total of 4GB of RAM. In other words, if you have a 512MB video card, you will only be able to use 3.5GB of RAM. This is a limit of the 32Bit hardware and software architecture and there is no way around it. If you run 64Bit, the limit does not apply.

I recently bought a Dell Quad core with 3Gb ram and Vista for less than $500 - C6Pro and Hexagon work perfectly on it :)

I'm running a Phenom Quad core with Ultimate and 4GB, works great here too. I triple boot either XP, Vista 32Bit or Vista 64Bit. Usually Vista 32Bit though. I hardly ever touch XP anymore.

Does C5p or C6p turn off Desktop Composition on launch for anyone else?
It does for me everytime. Other than that, it seems to work fine.

Vista is a lot like Millenium in one respect. People either had no problems at all with it and loved it, or they could barely get it to run and hated it with a passion. I am seeing the same thing happening with Vista users.
