I'm looking for a realistic astronaut /spacesuit model for Poser (pref 7, but not essential). Can anyone help, please?

It's not free, but this is the best one I know of. Available from DAZ3D.

Thanks. Only trouble is, I can't find it on Daz3D site!  (Does it work in Poser 7?)

Great -- thanks. Please excuse my ignorance but can I be sure it will work in Poser? It's not .pz3 -- what's ps_ac?

TheHalfdragon posted Thu, 03 July 2008 at 2:25 PM

the ps_ usually means it's the poser version as far as i know

Helgard posted Thu, 03 July 2008 at 3:52 PM

the ps_ac is just the product number on DAZ, it is not a format. When you install that, it will be a conforming figure in Poser, in your figures folder. It is not a .pz3, you just load it from your figures folder.

thx fr the lnk, helg.
I also noticed a bunch of astronaut models at the 'squid, when I was checking out
all the mario characters.  maybe they've got an astronaut model here at 'rosity's store.

Well, this one isn't a traditional astronaut, but it IS a very nice spacesuit. It might suit your needs... first go to

http://www.sixus1media.com/freebies.html    Scroll down a bit see all the freebies from Sixus1 Media. Go to the top set of freebies, and click on the right hand column, second from the top to download H.I.M.  Next scroll down and look on the lower right between the "Predator Pose Pack" and "Alley Cats for H.E.R. and you'll find a really nice model of a spacesuit. The suit has several different MAT poses, with differing colors, plus you could just go and change the colors of the textures yourself to get a more traditional looking white spacesuitif that's what you need. I'll vouch for the quality of these freebies.... although the basic H.I.M. figure looks a tad strange, the models of his outfits, costumes, etc overall are outstanding

O.K., here shows my ignorance.  Where's the 'squid'?

I am happy to puchase some space suits (they don't need to be free), but would like to do some stuff with any of the following, and am having a hard time finding these:

  1. Current realistic Spacesuits or Anstronaut clothing
  2. Futuristic spacesuits
  3. Sci-Fi or Manga "battlesuit" type futuristic armor.

I went to http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ and searched and found quite a few asronauts/spacemen.

After you find some .skp models, download and install Google Sketchup; it will run for free for 8 hours- plenty of time to export the models as .obj files which work perfectly in Poser, although they will not be posable.

I wouldn't buy Sketchup- it doesn't conform to any 3d package conventions and costs a whopping $450. You get a heck of a lot more bang for your 3D dollars with most other packages (free or commercial!) but there are some super models available.

OK, thanks for the advice!

arrowhead42 posted Mon, 06 October 2008 at 5:46 PM

I agree with VRG; sketchup is easy to work with and very intuitive, but not worth the massive pricetag, when other modeling programs are out there. I must say however, that I wish Wings 3D was as easy to work with as Sketchup

Here is a freebie - it depends on HOW realistic you mean.  If you want a "reasonable" one for A3, then go here and scroll down; you'll find two by shukky.
http://posernightmare.com/download/index.html

By "reasonable" I mean they are believable - not Super Hero CosPlay

(While you're at it, get the free 100 poses for A3 below it - I use these all the time & find them useful for general life; not so bizzare artsy poses as most packs how now.)

Just found a really cool "NASA Astronaut" over at www.foundation3d.com in the freebies section.
