Could you tell a bit more about the material? Where is it from? How old is it? With what version is it created? Etc etc - hard to say otherwise what is going on.

Boden02 Folder
Boden03 Folder
Mauern02 Folder
Wand06 Folder
These are the material folders I am having trouble with as to what version or how old I don't know.
I don't recall where I got them either.

Well, then it is very hard to say what is going on.
Several reasons maybe.
#1 the materials are simply too old - Vue 3.1 or older. Then only Vue 5 can read them. Newer versions not. You can try to convert them with the scene converter that comes with Vue on the CD (or iso). But try it only on copies, bever on originals.
#2 There come orginally from objects that were bought at Cornucopia and were taken from copy-protected object. Then the materials are protected too and you will not be able to read them.
#3 The bitmaps that are used are either missing or can't be read. Then you maybe are unable to read the whole material as well.
By any reason the names ring a bell - my guess is that the materials are simply too old.

by bit maps do you mean the accompanying jpgs? they are in with the mat's. Where does vue look for the bit maps (?jpgs?)

It's these:
http://dream-of-vue.de/start.php
These are textures that came off lemog way back and saved as .mats for Vue. I don't believe they are version specific, as I can open the above OK in V6I.
Maybe try re-downloading from the above site & see what happens it could be what you have has become corrupted.
Wabe you might could help here since the site is all in German & I see they also have forums which do appear to be active. I quickly glanced about & didn't see a Vue version specific identification anywhere obvious.
