Wow, this looks extremely tidy, Gill! I 'm lucky to have a large desk in my big basement room that serves as a guest room, computer room, audio studio, and gym! My desk has books and CDs all over the place (off limits to anyone else!), between the graphic tablet, the printer, the large monitor, and the scanner. I find all I need there most of the times, but there are the other times when I wish it was organized (but then I find what I want, and conclude there is absolutely no need to change anything!)
gillbrooks posted Mon, 07 July 2008 at 5:26 PM
I like to be tidy wherever I work! Though what isn't in shot here is a set of stacking boxes (floral of course) that houses my disks and other paraphenalia. It's all hidden behind the door. Fortunately, one thing that didn't show up here was the layer of dust - hasn't been done since middle of last week (nawty me)
I ditched the printer ages ago. The inks used to dry up and was a waste of money as I don't print very much. If I DO need anyting printing off I zoom it over to hubby's compter and he does it.

There was a time when this whole corner was a mass of black spaghetti cables, keyboards, huge consoles and other stuff. But the miracle of modern technology (and saving buku pennies) has allowed me to streamline down to what you see here.
The tall black thing in the right corner is a Bose L1 sound system. The sound is so pristine it forces you to be a better musician. The black box on the floor is a power board with harmonizer and guitar synth. Wind controller, module and recording deck on the left and Alvarez, Mike Kelly and Godin instruments on the right.
I have to keep the side panel off my pc with a fan blowing into it. My vidcard (overclocked) gets way too hot. Sometimes, I'll turn everything on and turn the lamp off and just sit back and look at all the pretty lights lol.......

Quite tidy Paul - for a man !! Though the area does look very masculine. The photos are a nice homely touch though :)
Mark, yours looks a little too chaotic for my taste but with all the music stuff in there as well, it's hardly surprising. I do like your table lamp though.
Thing with me is - I like using the technology but I hate it being on show. My 2 external drives on my desk are camoflaged with dragons and postcards. Yes, my TV is in a big cupboard and the doors are only open when it's being watched. AND I don't have a TV in the bedroom. Hubby has a little mini TV in his tiny computer room but I rarely go in there. He makes model planes......I need say no more !!!!

Not a patch on Wabe's setup though, his looks like a room from one of those hip Scandinavian style catalogues.
The PC is under the left hand screen, the Mac Mini hides under the drawer unit on the right, and those are Bose Companion speakers, great for movies. Sidewinder joystick for Flight Simulator, and somewhere in there is a Wacom A6 tablet.
Midfield, two Kensington Pro trackballs, expensive but excellent.
Appropriately perhaps, the poster on the wall is from "Grace Under Pressure", the 1984 RUSH album.

Hey Gill, you'd like my chair. It used to have the same material you see on the back (burlap type stuff). And the seat pad wore out. I re-upolstered the seat and arms with ultra-leather. The seat is tripple padded (never sink down to the wood at 190lbs) and the arms are double padded). It's pretty comfy!

You've got a really good dedicated space there !! You even look like a reposed Bruce Willis in the photo
Not sure about the chair - sounding very unladylike leather often makes my bum sweat ! :blushing:
Plus I'm more of a floral person as the photos may show - I've yet to see white leather with floral motifs printed on but I'd consider buying some if I saw it - as long as I didn't use it to cover a seat !

The shelves on the desk fell into my hands at just the right moment, same with the ones between the couch & tv.
THIS is my office/living room. My throne of power (and i fight for my chair). yes, that is the fridge to one side of my desk, marking the edge of the kitchen. The fridge is almost directly opposite the front (only) door.
The images pointing towards the TV were taken in the MIDDLE of my "kitchen", with only slight cropping to remove the trash can from the photo.
I DID blur/block identifying features in photos of my daughter, as well as blurred any writing that was personal or could have a copyright issue (looks under desk at the row of cleaning products & canned air) tried to anyway ;)
Gill - i think you would suffer greatly in my house. If i covered everything that visually disruptive, it would feel extremely closed in. This is, strangely enough, the most open this trailer has felt since the day we moved in.
as you can see... every inch of space has to count. Its also a work in progress =D
After i post this message, will post the second pic depicting the "entire living room/entertainment room/office"
if you're claustrophobic....
i wouldnt recommend visiting =D

Well, I sort of know what it's like dealing with small living spaces - though ours is just the holiday caravan that belongs to my in-laws. It's 38' x 12' but it doesn't house all our stuff - only what we need while we're there and I never toake my laptop with me so no computer stuff either.

*grins...
i finally measured the length of this thing... 32' (inside - give or take a few inches)... and 7 & a half foot wide (inside). again, give or take a few inches either way for the "STRAIGHT" walls that the landlord remodelled long ago... chuckles
the smallest place i ever lived in was, if i recall correctly, approx. 18' long & 8' wide. did that for 3 months, but the good thing was, it was in my parents back yard, so could go inside the "big house" during the day - where there was a kitchen, a tv, computers, and most importantly, a working bathroom.
oh wait. wrong. it was a very large 8-person tent for a summer when i moved back up here to alaska. big enough for a futon mattress on the ground and our suitcases.
grins travel trailers are fun. as long as you're not living in one permanently and have attempted to shove 50 pounds of (CENSORED) into a 2 and a half pound bag.
thank goodness my main creative outlet is now poser & vue. i clutter my hard drive, NOT my living space =D (dont get me wrong... i have several large boxes in here full of craft paints & glues & other crafty things that cant freeze - the rest of my crafty things are in a storage unit until such time as my living space grows. it will happen. eventually.)
Meanwhile, i keep finding creative means of storage & downsizing - and i have also learned what a person can actually live without LOL.
and what they can't.
Anyone want some snow? I got a yard outside with snow almost 2 feet deep. come & get it & its yours!

Hi everyone. i usually don't visit the forums, but i decided that i should check it out and maybe get involved with some and this is the one that caught my eye. i'm always fascinated by how other artists work and their spaces...they range from chaotic to nearly pristine and every degree in between. i thought i'd throw my hat in the ring. i'm lucky enough to have a room for a studio, but how organized or chaotic it is depends on the current project/s that i've involved myself in....i took this a couple of minutes ago and didn't clean anything up, so here it stands (or sulks) in it's cluttered glory. (if you notice, i have two chairs close to one another with totally different projects going on....that's so i can quickly move to the one i'm not supposed to be working on in a flash, and work on that one). so, is thread properly named "A Room With A Vue"?gillbrooks posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 2:56 AM
Ah but it looks like organised clutter
Actually, it looks like you've got a lot of inspirational stuff in there - a very good place to work
Gill
steelrazer posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 10:56 AM
"organized clutter"...that's what i was claiming, but it never seems to sound believable... and i'm writing down the phrase "inspirational stuff" for the next time someone suggests that i might get more done if i clean the studio up. but, it is a very good place to work!
gkmotu posted Fri, 12 December 2008 at 11:52 PM
I realised looking through this thread, that ive spend too much time at my work.
My studio at home isn't that cozy at all. Tho I live of making images and music I dont have one single bit on my walls. Its very minimalistic.
However here is my 35mm film rig, used it a few times in junction with vue ( tracking footage yada yada ) Its one of the props I got close to me when working, including music gear ~
gillbrooks posted Sat, 13 December 2008 at 4:50 AM
Cosy doesn't work for everyone.
I have a complete 'technoban' in our house. Even the telly is in a cupboard and the doors are only open when it's being watched. Hi fi is in another cupboard and as the door is glass fronted, I have lace hung up inside to hide what's in there !
Even in the kitchen - I have a flowery curtain hiding the washing m/c and dishwasher !!

I like those computer cabinets but 2 drawbacks are not enough legroom to stretch out and I like to lean on my elbows when I'm working - can't really do that on those things.
The main box is hidden in the cupboard part of my desk, my external drives are covered with dragons, postcards and other paraphenalia. If I really want to get paranoid I can make a flowery cover to go over the monitor when it's not in use

I got the cat status in an antique store. It is made of metal and weighs a ton. I think it is supposed to be a candle holder of some sort.
The cats look at it and think he is a snob (he never answers them and looks condescending standing on his hind legs like that all the time).
It is nice to have a cat built-in to my desktop - especially to keep my hands warm in winter. The only problem is that the bulk makes drawing on my tablet more difficult :)

our rajiah-puppy loves to chew on smelly socks, so it could be worse than the silly plastic sausages ;)
We took her to "sled dog training camp" late last winter (back to the Mackey's where she came from for a few weeks for him to evaluate her and see if he wants to potentially use her in his team - he does!)... she was sooo happy to see us when we came and picked her up a few weeks later... she crawled into the back seat of the car we had just picked up that day (old one died during all this LOL), layed her head between the front seats and proceeded to drool the entire way back home. Behaved? very well behaved... but my cup holder was FULL of DROOL. EWWW.
(yes, i cleaned it out... ignoring hubby's statement of "just let it stay there, it'll evaporate eventually" UGGG)
it's difficult to photograph pets... once they know what you're doing, they either vanish, or get right in your face going "whatcha doin? whats that? can i lick it? can i eat it?"

Xmas day we took her to my brothers house as that's where all the family were. My nephew and niece were there with their 2 dogs. Both labs. Maya has met Jessica a few times - she's only a couple of months older than ours. She met Muttley for the first time. He's now 12 months old and like a sumo wrestler! He was being held by my nephew but straining to get at Maya.
Little miss butter wouldn't melt just kept eyeballing him - daring him to come over.

The desk isn't quite so tidy today as I've been updating one of my older store items so I've been ignoring the 'tidying up' part !
The little drawers on the top are part of the removable monitor stand - I changed the boring wooden knobs for the pretty floral china ones.
I didn't intend the desk to stay that orangey 'antique pine' - I was going to paint it white and stencil flowers on it but I'm never off the computer long enough to do it!!
Love to see your photo if you find it
