Subject: Shader node Issue - can't delete from Animation window

I have several shader nodes that I toggled animatin on for the AMBIENCE.   I played around with them and decided not to use them. They still show up now in the OBJECTS window under shader nodes as the ones I toggled on for animation.  I can't delete them.  On one I toggled the animate on/off - when I do I end up with duplicate shader nodes now in the OBJECTS window and ANIMATION window. But the animation (turning ambience on and off ) does not work anymore for this one that shows up a duplicate.

How do I reset all of this for the prop I've been working on? I want to go back to where I was before I started messing with the animated shaders and not lose the other texture work I've done.  I tried saving as a prop and then bringing back into a new scene but all this mess returns with it.

Is there anyway easy to delete materials on a prop and create new ones with diff names? Thanks!!
