I'm really happy with Vue 6 Infinite, but hey, lot of things I'd still like ;) And so...one waits, eagr to see what they give us!
Hope they make upgrading easier, very annoying having to dig out all the serial numbers back to v5!!

Ok... what I wish for Vue7 is more animation tools. We see last time some commercials were Vue was used as backdrop tool only (this is a little bit disappointing) Vue need some sort of particle animation and physics simulation in future.

I'm very satisfied with Vue except for it spectralclouds system. The featurespectrum and handling is excellent.
I don't know what kind of major improvement Vue could get, perhaps a render that makes it realistic all automatically? :P Perhaps an improved animationsystem, or maybe a magic way to make 8096 terrains possible on win32.

Well for example...
...ecosystems which deploy items not only on surfaces (upper only!) but in volumes (for example flocks of birds flying), or...
...SolidGrowth engine upgraded to include a significant part of XFrogs plant technology or...
...integration with DAZ Studio (for people working with scantly clad ladies in old buildings )...
...and improved terrain generation system (what about realistic erosion?)...
...more improvements to atmospheres models (just consider TG renders)....
...rocks which look like rocks and not props for a low poly video game...
...etc etc.
I don't understand why you consider spectral clouds bad. Sure, you have to cranck up quality settings and renders become very long, but still they are faster than the week long times of "extreme" TG2 scenes. You could also postprocess the image using one denoising app.

realistic erosion? Realistic erosion means 3d terrain, =x² more demanding, it is not possible with current technology, only with displacement mapping, and I doubt that eon-software will take the effort into making such a complicated generator, you know how long it takes to create detailed 2.5D terrains in external terraingens.
Where please is Terragen2's atmospheric system ahead of Vue's? I'd say Vue's is ahead of Terragens from what i can see.
Good example is way clouds fadeout in the haze of the atmosphere in the distance, it looks very realistic, and something that I have not seen in TG2 yet.
Rocks with more polies should be rocks you use with either a complex mat or displacement maps, the Vue rocks are just fine for small/middle size pebbles and stones.
Quote - I don't understand why you consider spectral clouds bad.
Look at Terragen2's clouds, they have lots more edge-bias, which is something you see in average day-clouds. Not all clouds each day are so smooth and low-edged.
Often, clouds look like smoke, or how i like to call them, "exploding clouds", tgtp can do em, Vue currently can't.
Cranking up the quality results in reduction of the grain, but not in enhanced fractal detail of the clouds.
alexcoppo posted Wed, 30 July 2008 at 8:47 PM
Several times on Planetside forums I read comments from the developers of TG2 in which they stated that they strived to get realistic results, but not necessarily by means of physically correct rendering models. I think that a I-look-right-even-tough-math-and-physics-are-wrong lighting/atmosphere model could be a useful addition to Vue armoury.
W.r.t. to realistics clouds, professional renders use smoke and clouds simulations by means of particle systems. E.g. the nuke mushroom cloud you saw in the sixth season of '24' is the result of the work of two (costly) plugins... and even then, if you compare that sequence with actual nuke footage, you see that the GC rendering is really simplicistic.
Bye!!!

I've spent lots of time on Vue's lighting settings recently,
put the ambient light from skydome to 1,5 use radiosity and make highlights of your objects to put 70-80% put the second slider to 15-30%, 15-25% light balance and you get about the same results like in the "amazing" TG2 renders, I promise :P. There's not much magic behind it, the renderengines are not really different, it's all about the settings, and by default (and pre-load atmospheres) i must say Vue's light settings look really really really unrealistic, it makes it really hard for the user to find out first.
Quote - Several times on Planetside forums I read comments from the developers of TG2 in which they stated that they strived to get realistic results
right, they made the lighting settings on a universal-preset basis, so more or less everyone is using the same light settings, with variation, not a great deal if you ask me.
What I think is that there are more skilled users using Tg2 than Vue6.5 right now, hm might be an illusion tho.
I will soon kick in some really candy landscapes with Vue i hope :P.

I'm curious about the better rendering and normal mapping.
miketee10021 posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 11:53 AM
I would add something in capital letters: INTERIOR rendering. Yes, there is an interiors kit that produces good results. But it's incredibly slow. We need something like Firefly for interiors. Something that gives you decently lit living room or dining room in a twenty minute, as opposed to a five hour, render. I have heard rumors of 'interior radiosity' for Vue 7 - let's see what this means.

If Vue 7 renders as slow as Vue 6, I'll wait until Vue 8. I spent a lot of time watching slow Carrara and Vue 5 renders. Even more time watching even slower Bryce renders. modo has spoiled me with its rendering speed. I will not pay for another 3D app that renders as slow as Carrara or Vue 6. I want a render in minutes. Not in hours (or days).

I want a link to external render engines if poss. Something like VRay would be utterly awesome for Vue renders (and would stop me thinking about C4D/VRay I hope)

Being back from holidays, I have sampled just about every plant I could in order to make Vue ones. But doing so, I discovered that I could not make about 75% of the plants I had sampled, even very simple ones, because the corresponding plant structures did not exist in Vue.
So what I really expect from Vue 7 is a more decent plant editor offering more control on plant creation!
Also :
Fantasy pictures,
free 3d models, 3d tutorials
and
seamless textures on Virtual Lands.

Me too. The Xtreme versions of Vue work as plugins for other 3D apps so you don't have to use Vue for rendering. I'm guessing.
I would upgrade to Vue 7 Xtreme if it plugged into modo.

Silverblade went to a lot of trouble.
Saunters in and plants bugs in the top secret control room by claiming to be there to change the bottle water
Thats how I came by this information...
Ok I just got it from the e-on press release but a little self promotion never hurt the Vue news blog ;-)

Back from Siggraph. Boy do my feet hurt!
The demos of both Infinite and xStream 7 were fantastic! :tt1:
The water editor will make foamy shores and waves in a click of the mouse. Spectral 2 clouds will make you cry they look so beautiful. xStream has really changed the most - the entire interface has changed. Bunch of other new treats too. I'd rather let e-on tell about them when they are ready. Since this was a beta that they were showing off, some things may not make it to the final release, so don't want to ruin anything.
When will it be released - "end of the year"
How much will it cost to upgrade "Don't know yet"
Will I be updating - Oh yeah!

Not demoed, but they did show some awesome pictures of Radiosity renders. For a presentation, you don't want to wait even a few minutes for something to render... Will have to wait for more info from e-on. It did seem to render very speedy!
