So I have some money saved up for flashes ($350 U.S.). I also want to be able to trigger them via a radio trigger. I've been looking at Vivitar 285HV's and Sunpak PZ42X. But the problem is that I cannot find any way to trigger them off camera.
I want to use them to shoot concerts (rock / punk / metal), so I need something sturdy and non-optical based for the trigger. I do not want other people's flashes making mine go off. Does anyone have ideas?

Why would you want to use flash at gigs? That would kill the lighting and atmosphere! Just pump up the ISO!

I have a max ISO of 1600.
And most of the shows have just enough light to make 1/25th for a shutter speed. For metal shows I need at least 1/100th. In addition, they tend to play with all the lights off, with their own lighting pointed out towords the crowd.

check ebay for a cheap option - got a feeling they might be known alternatively as V2 Cactus triggers - cheap (similar ones on ebay come under "wireless flash trigger"). But if you want the cream of the crop you need to go no further than a Pocket Wizard. Google/ebay search should bring up both of them...

Okay, but my concern is on linking them to trigger the flashes. Is it as simple as connecting a receiver the the hot shoe mount?
