Water?...on Mars?....Really?? That changes my whole view of the money spent on such missions. It was so worth it. :thumbupboth:

Just take a minute to look at the photograph though... anyone can see it's a Bryce render...

AgentSmith posted Fri, 01 August 2008 at 1:53 PM

Now if they could only find frozen lager on Mars....mmmmmmm. ;o)

Then it would be time to suit up and get someone up there to plant a flag in that red beauty.

"Nasa said it was extending the mission an additional two months."

You mean to tell me, they put a timeline on something that cost millions of dollars?

tom271 posted Fri, 01 August 2008 at 7:53 PM

It only has a limited amount of ovens it can cook up experiments with...    It can scoop just so many times and do tests...  yes, million$  but I personally think it is worth the money to know what we learned so far...

Yes indeed, we now know where to get some water should we need it.

Disclaimer: This was not a personal attack, just my own personal sarcasm directed solely at the idea this could help makind in any way. 😉

I didnt mean to imply its worth.. but rather couldnt they continue to use the lander for taking a site seeing tour and take as many photos as they can till the thing dies on them.  Rather than end the mission because the ovens are done.

That ability to continue after the ovens are gone would have cost a little more...  for a set of wheel and motor...
