Hello to all, I have been a lurker here for some time. Unfortunately I have lost my inspiration
and can't seem to get it back. I was wondering how others have dealt with this?

Take a break, play a game :) Or look into some aspect of 3D you hadn't dared try before. Download Blender and see if you're interested in modeling and texturing:

As others have said in the past: listen to some music, watch a show, read a book, take a walk outdoors, play with you pets, if you have any. Any of the aforementioned activities might get you thinking, can I create what I just read, saw, did? Then choose the appropriate figure and go from there:)
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Lately my inspiration has come from trying to tell a story. I'll develop
the next episode, try to see what the characters are doing, and set
up a scene. After the scene is set up, the characters tell me what
should happen next, and it's often a surprise to me!
Presumably they are working from something in my own mind,
but it's something that wasn't available until then.

I've been looking through fashion magazines at photo shoots and advertisements, but not just at the pictures. I look at the elements in the picture such as the lighting and shadows, placement or pose of the main element or figure, maybe the odd prop or placement of props, and then set out to recreate those elements to a certain degree.
I don't often get inspired by music, though I was hit with mega inspiration while listening to Metallica and it resulted in my "Unforgiven II" image which I'm pretty happy with.
Also a holiday or celebration or a contest will spark my neurons. I'm already gearing up for Halloween again! LOL I can't wait for some Halloween contests to start. I think I entered all of them last year and even got an honourable mention at Sixus1.
I also love to do dedications to people either "just because" or because they have shown me some extra kindness, or have gifted me with something.
Movies also will give me the odd idea, but not often.
Trying to learn something is also hugely inspirational. I've been working more with lighting, and recently discovered volumetric lighting (great stuff!!!)
Moments in history are also great for inspiration. Capturing the look of a gold medalist, the sadness in the face of a mother whose child has died, the giggles of a small child when a butterfly lands on her hand, etc.

Take long break...... a really long one. Don't try to work up inspiration or copy other peoples work. Let it all go for a while, don't even touch Poser and such, do something completely different for a few weeks or months if needed. If during that time your fingers start tickling, you feel an urge to use Poser again and see some ideas forming in your head then you know you're regaining your inspiriation.
If that doesn't happen, then it's time to look for something else to do, find some other hobby.

Wow, thx for all the awesome suggestions, I have taken a break from Poser for some months now
Hopefully the break will not be lasting.

When I get to the point poser isn't working for me, I
start watching Bloody Movies. There is a new set thats
out there now called (MANEATERS SERIES) about all
kinds of animal and insects killing everything they come
in contact with. No happy endings here! After a few of these
I get on poser and make great art. If your not into gore, adventure
movies work also. V4 looks great being chased by some
crazy creature intent on eating her or just ripping her apart!

i actually find the getting away from it part not so helpful if it's more than a few days. creativity is a practice and a discipline like most things in life, and if you stop, well... you lose your focus and dull your skills. it's not like you train for a race by not running.
i go ages between posts, but that's because i tend to have several images going at once. not the best habit. so i guess i'd advise finishing things. seriously, i think one of the best ways to get inspiration in writiing when blocked is to start doing quick pieces, the best way to get inspiration for pictures and paintings is to do lots of 10 minute sketches, and the best way to get inspiration for poser work is either quick sketches or quick renders. don't try to do the best you can do. don't polish. just try as many new ideas as possible. even if they're silly or simple or weird. you do some 1 - 2 hour renders, and you'll hit some idea that just lights you up.
outside media is up to you. sometimes i find other people's work inspiring. sometimes i find it binds me to standard types of work. sometimes the outside world harmonizes with my inner voice, and sometimes it just drowns it out or makes it hard to hear. we live in a media rich society, and most people here spend a lot of time online, where we actively consume media at a furious rate. that can be a benefit and a burden, depending on where you are mentally. i think you have to determine which phase you're in.

*I beg to differ..... a lot. I was forced to stop using Poser for over 2 years, due to physical circumstances. When finally I was able to use my computer again and Poser (and other 3D appications), I found that I did not loose my focus at all, my skill weren't dull at all and my creativity was blooming. For me using Poser is like riding a bike or a car, you don't loose the skill even if you don't use it for a number of years. That's why I'm a 100% sure you can stop using Poser or any other application and focus on other things, the skills to use Poser will not dull and in the meantime you may regain creativity while not focussing on it.

well, i will say i haven't had it happen or seen it happen. without seeing your before and after works, i'm sure it's not a useful debate.

Try this as an exercise, if you collect freebies like the rest of us.
Select three at random. Dont think about it; just grab three completely by whim. Then pull your favourite character mesh and build some kind of scene around these four objects in a way that they all connect logically.
I swear, it does wonders for your sense of creativity.

And rockets, My avatar is just one that reflects the little devil in me. Part of me misses participating in a forum such as this. Guess I'll have to hang out here more ,lol.

Stare at Excel spredsheets all day at work.....then you'll find yourself creating all sorts of images in Poser to get all those little cells and numbers scrubbed from your brain. (I still haven't don't the demon file folders are chasing me scene yet....)
Sometimes, I just open Poser up, pick a figure at random, play around for a few minutes...and not even worry about doing up or saving out a final render. This usually doesn't involve setting up a full blown scene....sometimes I just like to dink around with no goal in mind. Occasionally, it'll result in a dial-spin creation that inspires me to do something more the next day. If the results are a bunch of nothing, I don't worry about it and take a break for the rest of the day.
And then there are the days where my hubby has to drag me away from the computer....so it all evens out.
Crazy alien chick FTW! (yeah....right....)
