Looks great. I really have to start getting into HDRI. I have never used it yet.

it looks very nice IMVHO. do the settings allow caustics?
GKDantas posted Sun, 24 August 2008 at 5:45 PM
You can use caustic but I didnt try it (just in the test render). Look at the Wiki for the product that there are more about it .

Hi GK -
In your wiki, what is your room model setup like in your sample renders? (how many walls, etc).
Thanks!
GKDantas posted Mon, 25 August 2008 at 8:33 AM
Hahaha... only two wall theres and the Sky Light intensity was about 4000! I dont know why I need to use this value in this scene. I will upload an image from the camera so people can see this

Excellent, I again can't thank you enough for this lighting! I do most renders indoors and found that with a floor 2 walls and even a ceiling (2 walls invisible or deleted) with a bulb or other light it looks even more realistic! Since 2 of the 4 walls are not in the scene you still have enough HDRI lighting getting in that gets magnified by my light. The light or bulb is usually only 20 feet throw distance with a falloff of 80%..just enough to really bring out the HDRI lighting.
Can't wait to see the new one!

Hey Boeing, show your render to us! I will post the new one on friday at CGShare... just wait a little more.

Thanks GKDantas! That render was using the number 2 HDRI with a bulb. I can't wait to try the freebie, looks like its a nice soft room setting.

I must be missing a step. I downloaded the HDRI zip file. Extracted to the Carrara 6 Pro Scenes folder, opened Carrara, added theGIDomeFreeSample folder to the browser, but when I click on the tab there's nothing in there...no icons to click and drag into the scene.
Help...what am I missing?

Quote - You need to extract it to your Carrara 6 folder, not the scenes folder :)
Thanks for helping me on this....I extracted to my Carrara Folder. I still dont see it....now what?
I would be more than happy to purchase GI Dome but want to be sure I can use it first. Thanks for your help.
stardust posted Fri, 12 September 2008 at 5:09 PM
Oh I'm sorry - I thought you were extracting the product - my bad. The freebie is just a zip, so you will have to apply the hdri map as you would load any other. Just unzip wherever you want to save the files.
GKDantas posted Fri, 12 September 2008 at 5:20 PM
Yes, Discoseven is right. The pack use a installer to put all files in right place. The freebie you can put anywhere ( I usually put in a HDRI folder under Textures folder).

Hmmm...Normally I either double click or click and drag a texture / object / pose / light ect. icon into my scene to apply, but there aren't any icons, in the browser tab, to click on. Is there another method of applying HDRI?
(The folder has been added to my Carrara browser...but there aren't any icons in it.)
